Elsie Porter is an average twentysomething and yet what happens to her is anything but ordinary. On a rainy New Year’s Day, she heads out to pick up a pizza for one. She isn’t expecting to see anyone else in the shop, much less the adorable and charming Ben Ross. Their chemistry is instant and electric. Ben cannot even wait twenty-four hours before asking to see her again. Within weeks, the two are head over heels in love. By May, they’ve eloped.

Only nine days later, Ben is out riding his bike when he is hit by a truck and killed on impact. Elsie hears the sirens outside her apartment, but by the time she gets downstairs, he has already been whisked off to the emergency room. At the hospital, she must face Susan, the mother-in-law she has never met and who doesn’t even know Elsie exists.

Interweaving Elsie and Ben’s charmed romance with Elsie and Susan’s healing process, Forever, Interrupted will remind you that there’s more than one way to find a happy ending.

There is not much to say except for the fact that I hate Taylor Reid. I hate her, for writing this. I hate her for making me cry so badly. I hate her for taking Ben away from Elsie.

I have not cried while reading a book so much since Harry Potter (read: Sirius’ death) and that is saying something because IΒ loveΒ Sirius Black to the ends of the Earth.

The story starts with the death of Ben and then hops timelines in the past, starting from the day Ben and Elsie met to the day they got married and the present showing how Elsie is coping with the loss of her husband of 9 days.

It makes you laugh and it makes you sob your heart out. Elsie and Ben’s relationship is in no way perfect and they fight like regular couples regarding petty things, but there is such honesty in their commitment to each other and they always come back and regroup and pick up where they left off.

They love each other fiercely and are shown to be each other’s pillars of support in times of need.

The fact that they had so little time together breaks my heart. They deserved a lifetime together. They deserved the kids, the house with a picket fence and to grow old with each other. They had their whole lives planned ahead of them. And, it would have been beautiful. But, sadly fate had other plans and they never got any of it.

Elsie coping up with everything is an emotional journey. She feels guilt, anger, betrayal and loneliness as the story continues, but Ben’s mother, Susan is a constant source of support to her after their initial rocky start.

The way their relationship progresses is beautiful. From strangers to acquaintances to sort of enemies and then essentially a mother and daughter. It is both heartbreaking and heartwarming to read.

Also, there is Anna, Elsie’s best friend who has been a constant fixture in her life since forever. Anna, who was there for Elsie every step of the way. Their relationship is gorgeous. Though they do see a lot of ups and down because of the trauma Elsie is going through, they support each other throughout and that kind of relationship is just hard to find these days.

All in all, Forever, Interrupted is a story that will make you laugh and make you cry at the same time. It will break your heart and then heal you all on it’s own.

A definite must read.
