An Interview with Aanchal Budhiraja aka TooHotToBeTrue2 on Wattpad

(Of the Baking With Boys fame)

Okay, so I’ll start by saying that this is my first interview, ever (where I’ve been the interviewer, of course. There’ve been a shit ton of interviewee interviews in my life. We can thank my need for a job for that one.)

Any how, we’re getting off topic. This is my first interview and Aanchal is a dear friend of mine. So, if we’re absolutely, ridiculously unprofessional or we talk absolute shit, please forgive me. You’ve been warned.

Time to start!

I think this is the part where I introduce the guest for today/tonight/whatever time you’re reading this on.

And that person is Aanchal Budhiraja! A 20 year old college student, pursuing her masters in economics, Aanchal loves to write quirky stories about love, friendship and adventure, always leaving us wanting more with the abhorrent cliffhanger endings for each chapter. She loves to dye her hair in awesome colors and works out at odd hours of the day (seriously. Odd hours. She works out at midnight. So, you can say she is obsessed.)

She’s best known for her stories Baking With Boys and The Demon Babysitter.

Now that we know who we’re meeting today, let’s get started!

Top Ten Tuesday (#2) – 10 Books I Wouldn’t Mind Santa Leaving Under My Tree

1479804461686

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly prompt hosted by the amazing people over at The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s prompt is Top Ten Things I Wouldn’t Mind Santa Leaving Under My Tree. The list is in no particular order.

1. Throne of Glass Series by SJ Maas

23599075When magic has gone from the world, and a vicious king rules from his throne of glass, an assassin comes to the castle. She does not come to kill, but to win her freedom. If she can defeat twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition to find the greatest assassin in the land, she will become the King’s Champion and be released from prison.

Her name is Celaena Sardothien.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her.

And a princess from a foreign land will become the one thing Celaena never thought she’d have again: a friend.

But something evil dwells in the castle—and it’s there to kill. When her competitors start dying, horribly, one by one, Celaena’s fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival—and a desperate quest to root out the source of the evil before it destroys her world.

Do I even need to explain this one? I mean, SJM! ‘Nuff said.

2. Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

23395680

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.

This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

This book has also been making lots of rounds on my Twitter TL and I think it would make for an interesting read.

3. Knitting In The City Series by Penny Reid

17673307

There are three things you need to know about Janie Morris: 1) She is incapable of engaging in a conversation without volunteering TMTI (Too Much Trivial Information), especially when she is unnerved, 2) No one unnerves her more than Quinn Sullivan, and 3) She doesn’t know how to knit.

After losing her boyfriend, apartment, and job in the same day, Janie Morris can’t help wondering what new torment fate has in store. To her utter mortification, Quinn Sullivan- aka Sir McHotpants- witnesses it all then keeps turning up like a pair of shoes you lust after but can’t afford. The last thing she expects is for Quinn- the focus of her slightly, albeit harmless, stalkerish tendencies- to make her an offer she can’t refuse.

Anybody who knows me, knows that I’m complete Penny Reid trash. I would read grocery lists and be happy if they were written by that lady. (Kidding. I totally wouldn’t, but you get the idea.) So, yeah, I love her work. Though I have all her books in the e – format, I would kill to own paperbacks. Preferably signed ones. So, yeah.

4. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

11408650Mara Dyer believes life can’t get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.

It can.

She believes there must be more to the accident she can’t remember that killed her friends and left her strangely unharmed.

There is.

She doesn’t believe that after everything she’s been through, she can fall in love.

She’s wrong.

I’ve heard so many good things about this series! I mean, so very many! But, I haven’t read it. So, I wouldn’t mind these in the least!

5. A Darker Shade of Magic by Victoria Schwab

22055262Kell is one of the last travelers–magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel universes connected by one magical city.

There’s Grey London, dirty and boring, without any magic, and with one mad King–George III. Red London, where life and magic are revered–and where Kell was raised alongside Rhy Maresh, the roguish heir to a flourishing empire. White London–a place where people fight to control magic and the magic fights back, draining the city to its very bones. And once upon a time, there was Black London. But no one speaks of that now.

Officially, Kell is the Red traveler, ambassador of the Maresh empire, carrying the monthly correspondences between the royals of each London. Unofficially, Kell is a smuggler, servicing people willing to pay for even the smallest glimpses of a world they’ll never see. It’s a defiant hobby with dangerous consequences, which Kell is now seeing firsthand.

Fleeing into Grey London, Kell runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She robs him, saves him from a deadly enemy, and finally forces Kell to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure.

Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, they’ll first need to stay alive.

Victoria Schwab. Do I need to say more? I mean, gah! She’s so good (or so I’ve heard) and I would love to read her books!

6. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

17675462Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her. His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.

But Gansey is different. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been told by her psychic family that she will kill her true love. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

The amount of longing I have to read this book is unparalleled. I mean, really unparalleled.

7. The Six of Crows Dualogy by Leigh Bardugo

23437156Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone…

A convict with a thirst for revenge
A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager
A runaway with a privileged past
A spy known as the Wraith
A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums
A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes

Kaz’s crew are the only ones who might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.

The thing that intrigues me most about this is the variety of characters in this book. I mean, so very many. And it’s Leigh Bardugo. Can you ask for more?

8. The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness

22910900What if you aren’t the Chosen One?

The one who’s supposed to fight the zombies, or the soul-eating ghosts, or whatever the heck this new thing is, with the blue lights and the death?

What if you’re like Mikey? Who just wants to graduate and go to prom and maybe finally work up the courage to ask Henna out before someone goes and blows up the high school. Again.

Because sometimes there are problems bigger than this week’s end of the world, and sometimes you just have to find the extraordinary in your ordinary life.

Even if your best friend is worshipped by mountain lions.

Award-winning writer Patrick Ness’s bold and irreverent novel powerfully reminds us that there are many different types of remarkable.

The premise of this book is something that thoroughly entices me. I mean, what if you aren’t the Chosen One? I want to know about that life. Because that is the life I lead.

9. The Daughter of Smoke & Bone Trilogy by Laini Taylor

8490112Around the world, black hand prints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherworldly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real, she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious “errands”, she speaks many languages – not all of them human – and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When beautiful, haunted Akiva fixes fiery eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

I have read some of the first book in this trilogy and it was absolutely beautiful. But, I would love to own the set and finally finish this series because it is going to be glorious!

10. The Aryavarta Chronicles by Krishna Udayasankar

15823163HONOUR. DESIRE. VENGEANCE.

Aryavarta – the ancient realm of the noble.

For generations, the Firstborn dynasty of scholar-sages, descendants of Vasishta Varuni and protectors of the Divine Order on earth, has dominated here. For just as long, the Angirasa family of Firewrights, weapon-makers to the kings and master inventors, has defied them. In the aftermath of the centuries-long conflict between the two orders, the once-united empire of Aryavarta lies splintered, a shadow of its former glorious self.

Now, the last Secret Keeper of the Firewrights is dead, killed by a violent hand, and the battle for supreme power in the empire is about to begin.

As mighty powers hurtle towards a bloody conflict, Govinda Shauri, cowherd-turned-prince and now Commander of the armies of Dwaraka, must use all his cunning to counter deception and treachery if he is to protect his people and those whom he loves.

But who holds the key to the fantastic and startling knowledge of the Firewrights, which in the wrong hands will bring doom upon the empire? And does Govinda have it in him to confront the dark secrets of his past and discover the true meaning of being Arya, of being noble?

History? Mythology? Retelling? COUNT ME IN! I need to read this ASAP!

I’m so very grateful for all the bookish merchandise available all around the world! From bookmarks to totes to tees and even wallpapers and screensavers and whatnot! I’m thankful for all of it!

2 Blogging

I’m also pretty thankful for blogging. It gives me a place to talk about all the books I read & love and read & hate and everything in between. It has been such a gift.

3 Bloggers

I’m pretty thankful for all the book bloggers out there because this community is so amazing. They’re all such great people and I love all of them! ❤

4 Wattpad

I’m extremely, extremely grateful for Wattpad! I can’t even describe how much I love that place! So many amazing people with so many amazing stories! ❤

It goes without even saying that I’m really, really thankful for the Harry Potter books! These books have helped me through a lot of stuff and it’s such a great story and the characters are amazing and GOD I JUST LOVE IT SO MUCH!

2 Penny Reid Books

I’m so very grateful for all the books by Penny Reid! Gosh, she is such an amazing writer and all her books have tasteful stories with amazing female leads. I wouldn’t even be reading romance if it wasn’t for her, so yes! I love her!

I’M BACK!

Hey guys!

So, exams are finally done and I will be able to return to blogging and reading and doing all kinds of awesome stuff!

I’m super pumped to get back into all the awesomeness that is the bookish community! I missed you guys!

Also, I know my blog was in a really bad shape before this, so I’m going to add new features and make it easier for everyone to follow me around here!

I’m adding an email sign up, opening a bloglovin’ account and whatever else I can find to make it a better and easier experience for all of us!

I’m also thinking about finally bookstagramming because it’s the best thing ever! 😀

And, for the lack of images in posts before this one, I was an idiot. I deleted a lot of pictures from my WordPress gallery. I didn’t know that it would make the pictures in the posts go away as well and then when I was done and viola! Most of my posts are without images! So sorry about that! Will never, ever do that again!

But, in the meanwhile, thanks for being patient! 🙂

The Girl Behind the Red Door

This is an absolutely amazing piece of poetry that’s a must read!

The Girl with Golden Words

There’s a little girl behind that red door
Who peeks out into the driveway and looks for more
She takes the courage to open it further
To see how the world looks beyond the nest built by her mother

She stands there stunned by the enormity.
This world is new and just so full of beauty!
She slowly steps into this world
A silence is around her, and the surroundings mulled.
And just when she is about to know more,
She’s abruptly pulled back towards the door.

Her past clings on to her like a shadow
Like a filthy ghost in a beautiful meadow.
She tries to fight it off with all might
In want of admiring the beautiful sight.
She thinks of the beauty of the other world
And that’s all she needs to give a big whirl.

Off goes the past and she steps into the future

The Wattpad Block Party

Those of you who are already on Wattpad must be aware of this cool thing that happens on Wattpad twice every year, but for those who don’t, the Wattpad Block Party is here!

Now, you’re wondering what it is, right?

It’s exactly what it says, a party. That takes place on Wattpad, where writers communicate with their favourite authors who also post stuff about their novels and themselves, right from Spin Offs, Alternate Realities, Writing Tips to character interviews, personal interviews and everything in between.

A few writers are chosen by the host, Kelly Anne Blount to participate in the event and they’re the ones who post stuff.

They’ve had two amazing parties already and are coming with this 3rd one which goes live in February 2016!

The featured authors include Christopher Pike (yes, you heard right, it did say Christopher Pike), Beth Reekles (of The Kissing Booth fame), Jordan Lynde (of A Proscriptive Relationship fame) and many more such amazing authors! And, I’m one of them! Booyah!

It’s an honor to be featured and I’m feeling completely star struck amongst these amazing and brilliant authors, but this is an amazing opportunity for me to increase my fan base (which is pretty non existent atm) and for you to discover many great new authors!

So, please, please, please do be a part of it!

It would mean the world to all of us!

The Wattpad Block Party – Winter Edition II

Hope to see you guys there!

It’s starting tomorrow and I’m uber pumped! 🙂

Always.

When I’m 80 years old and sitting in my rocking chair, I’ll be reading Harry Potter. And my family will say to me,

‘After all this time?’

And I will say,

‘Always.’

Alan Rickman.jpg

It  is with a heavy heart and sore eyes that I write this.

I still remember the first movie I saw him in. It was The Sorcerer’s Stone. I remember thinking that he was not a nice man because he didn’t like Harry. And, that feeling stayed the same throughout the series.

I’ve always, always, identified Snape only with Alan Rickman. There may have been times when I thought I didn’t particularly like Dan or Emma or Rupert or anybody else from the cast, but I’ve always held fast on the fact that Alan was the perfect Snape and will always be.

The way he brought Snape to life on screen was amazing and commendable and heart touching. He was the best person who could have played Snape and I thank JK everyday for convincing him to take the role on.

I haven’t seen any of his other movies, sadly, but seeing him pull of Snape, I know that he was a wonderful actor and an even more wonderful person. He was funny and witty and always supportive of all those around him. He was a dedicated actor and gave everything he did his all.

So, let’s all raise our wands to the ‘Bravest Man He Ever Knew’.
