Breaching The Contract, Chantal Fernando – Book Review

New York Times bestselling author Chantal Fernando returns with a brand new series about a brigade of lawyers who, despite being bad boys at heart, always end up just on the right side of the law.
Katerina Dawson knows exactly what she wants from life. And as the new associate at the top law firm in the city, she’s ready to live out her dreams of becoming a criminal lawyer. But going on coffee runs and babysitting kids during the day was definitely not what she had in mind. She knows that anyone else would kill to be in her shoes, but she has to draw the line somewhere. That’s easier said than done, though, when Kat has to confront her handsome boss…
Tristan Channing and Jaxon Bentley run a successful law firm together and the two partners couldn’t be busier right now. When Jaxon suddenly takes a leave of absence, Tristan begrudgingly assumes responsibility of the new associate, the hot new associate, who has curves for days. Needing to keep his distance from her, Tristan sends Kat on needless errands and has her doing work even an intern wouldn’t touch, like picking up his kids. But his plan backfires when he sees his children grow attached to Kat and sees her getting comfortable in his home. It triggers something deep within him, and it feels right to have her there. Will Tristan be able to keep his work and personal lives separate, or will he find that his heart holds the final verdict?

Breaching The Contract is the story of Kat, a driven, determined law school graduate who wants to be the most kick-ass criminal lawyer ever. She starts working at an up and coming law firm headed by two lawyers – Jaxon and Tristan which is famous for it’s repertoire in criminal law. Jaxon mentors her and she forms a very good working relationship with him. But, for personal reasons, Jaxon takes time off of work and she’s forced to work with Tristan during the time being. Tristan is the opposite of Jaxon in his ways and the two butt heads a lot. He micromanages Kat and doesn’t give her space to breathe. He’s rude and cold. He makes her do stuff beneath her pay grade. At first, Kat is annoyed with him at every turn, but as she spends more time with him and his kids, who he’s got her baby-sitting, things change and they start falling for each other. But, of course, things are far from dandy because he’s her boss.

What I like most about this book is Logan. He’s Tristan’s son and he’s the cutest kid ever. I adore him so much. All his interaction with both Kat & Tristan is so endearing. I just wanted to squish him with so many hugs! 😍

Kat is a very good character. She’s smart and driven and she doesn’t take shit from anyone. She’s super friendly and easy going. She’s had a tough life so far, but she makes the best of it and she doesn’t complain about her shitty hand. She doesn’t give much stock to love and is content with her friendships and her job. She’s so nice with kids even though she’s never been around one. It was really nice to see how she grew to like Tristan’s kids. So cute.

Then, there’s Tristan. Most of the book, I was so freaking annoyed at him. I mean, I understood why he had to ask Kat to babysit – he had client meetings and his nanny was sick. His best friend was caught up in his own problems and his family was half-way across the country. So, yes, I understand why he leaned on Kat. But, what I don’t like is how he seemed so ungrateful for all she was doing for him. He didn’t request her, he ordered. And he never thanked her the first time. Then, when she had to stay back so late that she actually fell asleep on his couch was when he had the decency to thank her and apologize for the issues. However, he was an amazing father and I loved that about him. He wasn’t able to spend a lot of time with his kids because of his demanding job, but he made the most of the time he did get. It was really nice to see him that way. And, once he started dating Kat, he was attentive and he made sure to look after her too. I really like that.

Overall, the story was good enough, but it wasn’t WOW like I was expecting it to be after reading the blurb. What I like was that it wasn’t unnecessarily dragged and the book was over in a short while. I think I read it in about 45 minutes. So, I love how the author didn’t create unrequired drama and it was just a short and sweet read. All in all, a nice, light read. 🙂

xo, Zach, Kendall Ryan – Blog Tour

The first time we met was at a party.

Your ex arrived to show off the person he’d left you for last month, and you asked me to pretend to be your date.

I was more than happy to help. You were attractive, smart and witty–and that kiss we shared? It left me wanting you for days.

The second time we met was in my office on campus where we were both surprised to discover you were the new master’s degree student in poetry that I would be working with. You promised to be professional. I did no such thing.

The late nights and intense study sessions spent alongside you majorly throw me off my game. I want you, and I fight with myself daily over this fact.

I know I’m crass, that my sexual innuendos and dirty mouth annoy you, but I live for those two bright spots of color in your cheeks. If that’s the only reaction I can get out of you, I’ll gladly take it.

You hate Mondays so every Monday I slip an anonymous poem into your bag and your smile gets me through the week.

I think I’m falling for you, and I know it’s wrong. I know that I’m only supposed to be your adviser and nothing more, but here’s the thing. I think you’re falling for me too.

xo, Zach

*ARC received as a part of a blog tour. The thoughts are entirely my own and in no way biased.*

First things, first. I absolutely adore this story. So very much. It’s swoony and romantic and hot and sexy as hell, all at once. It was such a pleasure to read this and I enjoyed every second of this book!
The story follows Zach & Poppy, two people who fall in love in unexpected circumstances and how they overcome their problems to stay together.

Poppy is a great lead. I adore her. She hasn’t had the easiest life and there’s stuff that she’s still dealing with in terms of money, but she’s doing her best. I like how she busts her ass off to do what she needs to do and she doesn’t whine about it. When other college students are getting drunk and partying, she’s working. But, she doesn’t complain or behave like her life is shitty or she could do so much better. She makes do with what she has and does what she has to do without complaints. I really admire that about her. Of course, the fact that she’s a poetess and absolutely loves reading are other brownie points which make me love her even more. She’s smart as hell and she’s focused, determined and driven. She’s really compassionate and sweet. She’s definitely not a pushover and she stands up for herself and doesn’t take shit from others. I think I admire that the most about her.

Then, there’s Zach, who’s absolutely swoony. Yes, he’s a little crude and makes no apologies about who he is, but he’s also a closeted romantic who slips love poems to Poppy every chance he gets. His poetry is really enchanting and I was left really mesmerized by how he poured his feelings in such beautiful words. He’s really passionate about his work, too. He’s been working on a novel, which I love, and he works as an advisor at a university, which is how he and Poppy start interacting regularly. He’s thoughtful and generous and is always finding new ways to show Poppy how much he adores and respects her. But, most of all, I LOVE how he’s big on consent. When his and Poppy’s sexual relationship developed, he never did a single thing without asking. He never assumed, he never went with the flow. If he wanted it, he asked for it and he respected Poppy when she said no. He didn’t try to pressure her or force her into anything she wasn’t ready for. It sent such a huge message for positive sex and consent that I just had to close the book and revel in that feeling before I could continue.

The secondary characters in the book are just as funny, but I think my favourite is Zach’s mom. She lacks a filter and will absolutely say everything on her mind. She doesn’t even mind discussing her son’s sex life with her supposed girlfriend in front if her son. Yeah, she’s the over sharing type. But, she is who she is and she doesn’t try to hide it or tame herself down. I love that about her. She doesn’t think she needs to hide who she is for people to like her. She loud, boisterous, foul mouthed and proud of it. I LOVE THAT.

Overall, this was such a great read with all these amazing characters and a beautiful plot and I loved every minute of this story. It is definitely something that I’d recommend to romance fans because it’s so good!

Team Player, A Christmas Anthology – Blog Tour

Eleven authors. Eleven Novellas. This is one thick . . . book.

Christmas just became a whole lot merrier…

TEAM PLAYER, A Christmas Anthology featuring titles by LJ Shen, Kennedy Ryan, Adriana Locke, Mandi Beck, Emma Scott, Charleigh Rose, Ella Fox, Sara Ney, Meghan Quinn, Kate Stewart and Rochelle Paige is available NOW!

Publication Date: December 14th, 2017
Genre: Contemporary/Sports Romance

Hot jocks. We love them all.

Sexy baseball players. Intense footballers. Sweaty MMA fighters, and sizzling hockey hotties. Score!

The good news? Eleven bestselling authors have gathered to give you a set of stories focused on the men we love most—sports heroes. We bet you’ll love this thick…book.

The bad news? The men in these novellas don’t actually exist.

*This anthology does not contain calories, just eleven original, never-before-seen stories by the following authors: Adriana Locke, Mandi Beck, Charleigh Rose, Kennedy Ryan, LJ Shen, Meghan Quinn, Rochelle Paige, Ella Fox, Kate Stewart, Emma Scott, and Sara Ney. We aren’t responsible for melted devices.

I have to start by saying that I absolutely, completely loved this collection! So very good. I was a fan of some of the authors featured in here which is why I decided to participate in the blog tour, but after reading the whole anthology, I’m going to have to check out the works of a lot of other authors. All of them were just so good, but some of them were absolutely amazing, and I loved their stories a whole lot.
First up was, obviously, Meghan Quinn because I absolutely adore whatever I’ve read of her. She didn’t disappoint. Hers was one of the best stories in the collection. It was definitely the funniest. I was laughing almost throughout the entire story and I loved that! It was the best pick me up and I’m definitely revisiting this story cause I loved it so much!
The best angst was Kate Stewart. Gosh. That story was hella angsty and I was just here for all the feels the two main characters were bestowing on me. So much hurt between the two of them and so many mistakes. Gah. They hated each other almost as much as they loved each other. And the UST. My, my! I absolutely loved the pair here! And the story! *heart eyes*
Then, there was this amazing story by Sara Ney that just melted my heart because it was so adorable. That was also the one that had the least spotlight on the “sports” part of the romance, but it was just so amazing. I loved it!
The Ella Fox novella was just absolutely, completely heart warming. I adored the lengths the hero in that one went to, just to profess his love for his girl. It was so good to see. Of course, there was a lot of heartache involved, but, seeing those two together just made me so happy!

Those four were the ones that stood out most to me, but all the stories in here are so, so good. And such quick reads. You can breeze through one novella in 30-45 minutes and that’s absolutely awesome. Such amazing stories, all of them. They made me laugh and they made me cry. But, all of them were brilliant and I loved every minute of reading this collection. It was the only thing I did yesterday because I was just not able to put the book down.

Bodyguard by CD Reiss

Release Date: November 14th, 2017

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Protecting a celebrity in Hollywood isn’t easy, but protecting Emily could break his heart.

As a world-class dancer at the height of her career, Emily enjoys all the perks of fame—the parties, the glamour, the tours—but they’ve also attracted the attention of a dangerous ex-boyfriend hell-bent on getting her back.

Enter Carter Kincaid, a bodyguard so crushingly sexy he takes her breath away.

Carter’s the best in the business, and Emily is—professionally speaking—off-limits. But when it comes to stirring his desires, she’s making all the right moves. What’s happening between them is so hot it could get both of them burned. As Emily’s past gets closer, Carter is willing to break every rule of the job to save her. But letting Emily into his life also means letting her in on the secrets of his own past. For these two, falling in love could be the greatest risk of all.

“Are we going to have another ‘about last night’ conversation?” I asked.

“If you want to.”

What did I want to say? Everything. but mostly, I wanted to tell him how much I liked kissing him and how conflicted I was. I wanted to demand answers immediately and give him space at the same time.

All the words tried to jump forward, but when he stopped at a light, our eyes met in the rearview. The words landed in a tangle, unsaid.

He tapped the steering wheel when he turned it, using both hands for the first time since I’d gotten in.

“Hey,” I said.

“Yeah?” He briefly looked at me in the mirror.

“What happened to your hand?”

“Burn.” he brushed his left hand over the bandage at the top of his palm, right where you’d burn it if you were picking up a hot pot handle. He caught my eye in the rearview again.

I didn’t know if I believed him.

“What were you cooking?”

“And you still went to get a Danish?”

He rubbed his upper lip with his left hand and tapped the wheel with the bandaged one.

“I burned my eggs.”

Right. Hot pot. Burned hand. Smoke-filled kitchen.

“You know what’s funny?” I said.

The Three Stooges.”

“I don’t know anything about you. You could live in your mother’s basement.”

“That’s just where I bury the bodies.”

Blatant avoidance. It had been cute before; now it was getting on my nerves.

“Are you married?”

He could have been lying, buy lying liars always lied. There wasn’t a thing I could do about that except make sure I asked.

Something was wrong. We’d kissed twice, and twice he’d shut down. I should have been the one shutting down. I was the one with all the ex-boyfriend baggage. Why was I the one who was always so willing?

But there he was in the front seat, driving with both hands on the wheel, glancing at me once in a while to make sure I wasn’t choking on my tongue in the back seat. Discomfort radiated out of him.

Here I was with my hands in my lap thinking about ways to kiss him again.

He pulled into the little lot and wedged into a space. He turned off the car, popped his seat belt, and stared at the wheel for a split second too long. I was about to open the car door myself when he turned all the way around, arm over the back of his seat, bandaged hand on the back of the passenger side.

“Kissing you…” He stopped and looked at my lips so intensely I folded them back and bit them. “You’re dangerous. I can’t even see your lips, but I can taste them. I couldn’t brush the taste of you out of my mouth this morning. Right now. The honey. I can taste it but not enough. I want to kiss you again, and I can’t. I lose my shit around you. I can’t do it. My job is control. Do you understand what I’m saying?”

My jaw loosened, and I let my lips go.

“No, I don’t. I’ve met bodyguards before. You’re a stoic bunch, but you’re not all celibate. And if you think this is easy for me, you’re wrong. I’m afraid too. I’m afraid you’re going to get hurt because of me. last night…” I put my fingertips to my lips as if that would keep the choking sob from coming. I kept it back. “Last night he showed me he’s back, and if he’ll hurt me, he’ll hurt you.”

If I thought seats would be a barrier between us, I was wrong. He launched himself between them and placed his lips on mine. Our third kiss was unexpected, uncomfortable with him stretched between front and back. I wove my fingers in his hair, giving him my mouth, and taking his.

I wanted that kiss to tell him it was all right. He could lose control. He could bemore than a protector. He was as safe with me as I was with him. But I couldn’t without lying to both of us.

He yanked his lips away.

“Trust me.” He leaned his forehead against mine.

About the Author

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

Bestselling author Kurt Remington lives to write. He spends twelve hours a day in front of his computer, rarely leaving the seclusion of his beach-front property, where he’s come to finish his latest thriller — that is, until free-spirited Leanna Bray nearly drowns in the ocean trying to save her dog. Kurt’s best-laid plans are shot to hell when he comes to their rescue. Kurt’s as irritated as he is intrigued by the sexy, hot mess of a woman who lives life on a whim, forgets everything, and doesn’t even know the definition of the word organized.
Leanna’s come to the Cape hoping to find a fulfilling career in the jam-making business, and until she figures out her own life, a man is not on the menu. But Leanna can’t get the six-two, deliciously muscled and tragically neat Kurt out of her mind. She tells herself she’s just stopping by to say thank you, but the heart-warming afternoon sparks an emotional and unexpectedly sweet ride as Kurt and Leanna test the powers of Chemistry 101: Opposites Attract.
*Read, Write, Love at Seaside by Addison Cole is the sweet edition of New York Times bestselling author Melissa Foster’s steamy romance novel Read, Write, Love. The stories and characters remain the same, and convey all of the passion you expect between two people in love, without any explicit scenes or harsh language.

Read, Write, Love at Seaside is a sweet, toned down romance of the story Read, Write, Love by Melissa Foster. It features Kurt Remington, a mystery writer and Leanne Bray, an up and coming entrepreneur who makes her living by selling jams and jellies.

Kurt is visiting Cape Cod for the summer to his writing retreat so that he can finish his latest manuscript. There, he meets Leanne and the two quickly fall for each other. But, when the summer ends, Kurt has to go back to his life in New York and an amazing business opportunity is keeping Leanne on the island. So, will they able to work it through?

I loved this story. So much. I actually breezed through it in about 2.5 hours just before I sat down to review it. I absolutely adore Melissa Foster’s writing, so it was an amazing afternoon with me and my book and this amazing story! ❤

I really adore Kurt. He’s so sweet with Leanne and her friends. He’s all smiles and charm and is always helping them out with stuff and just hanging out with them so that Leanne doesn’t have chose between him and her friends, who are also visiting the island for the summer. I like that. He is also very thoughtful with Leanne’s dog, Pepper. It’s so cute to watch them. Leanne, Kurt & Pepper became this cute little family that I adored b the end of the story. They’re so freaking perfect together. I love how Kurt is always there for Leanne and how he’s proud of all her accomplishments with the business. He always supports her in all her endeavours and is helpful without being condescending. So, yes, I adore him.

And, then, there’s Leanne. She’s an outgoing free spirited girl who’s a walking chaos unlike Kurt who likes to keep his life organized to the tee. She’s smart and charming and driven. She’s a little unsure when it comes to her newfound business, but only because everything is new, but she isn’t hesitant to take the reigns and just give it her everything. I love how she makes time for her friends even though she’s in a new relationship. I mean, in all these novels we see how the main leads don’t spend anytime with their friends once they start dating and it was nice to see that that was not the case here.

All in all, this book was a fun read that I absolutely adored. The romance was so well written, the characters were amazing and the plot was believable. You should definitely pick it up if you’re a romance fan! 😀

Leanna Bray was wet, cold, and floundering. Literally. She’d been floundering for twenty-eight years, so this was nothing new, but being pummeled by rain, wind, and waves, chasing a dog that never listened? That was new.

“Pepp—” A wave knocked her off her feet and she went under the water, taking a mouthful of saltwater along with her. She tumbled head down beneath the surface.

Now Pepper and I will both drown. Freaking perfect.

Something grabbed her arm, and she reflexively fought against it, sucking in another mouthful of salty water as she broke through the surface, arms flailing, choking, and pushing against the powerful hand that yanked her to her feet.

“You okay?” A deep, annoyed voice carried over the din of the crashing waves.

Cough. Cough. “Yeah. I—” Cough. Cough. “My dog.” She blinked and blinked, trying to clear the saltwater and rain from her eyes. The man’s mop of wet, dark hair came into focus. He held tightly to her arm while scanning the water in the direction of where she’d last seen Pepper. His clothes stuck to his body like a second skin, riding the ripples of his impressive chest and arms as he held her above the surface with one arm around her ribs.

“Come on.” She coughed as he plowed through the pounding surf with her clutched against his side. She slid down his body, and he lifted her easily into his arms, carrying her like he might carry a child, pressing her to his chest as he fought against the waves.

She pushed against his chest, feeling ridiculous and helpless…and maybe a little thankful, but she was ignoring that emotion in order to save Pepper.

“My dog! I need to get my dog!” she hollered.

Mr. Big, Tall, and Stoic didn’t say a word. He set her on the wet sand and tossed her a rain-soaked towel. “It was dry.” He pointed behind her to a wooden staircase. “Go up to the deck.”

She dropped the towel and plowed past him toward the water. “I gotta get my dog.”

He snagged her by the arm and glared at her with the brightest blue eyes she’d ever seen—and a stare so dark she swallowed her voice.

“Go.” He pointed to the stairs again. “I’ll get your dog.” He took a step toward the water, and she pushed past him again.

“You don’t have t—”

He scooped her into his arms again and carried her to the stairs.

Breathe Again, Sydney Logan – Book Review

30630473Carrie Malone has seen enough heartbreak to last a lifetime.

Her family’s demons gave Carrie the courage to move away from home and leave her past behind. Now a college senior, she stays busy with her classes and her job at the diner. It may sound boring to some, but to Carrie, the very best thing about her new life is that every day is calm and blissfully uneventful.

That all changes the night Josh Bennett walks into her diner.

With his dirty designer suit and mud-caked shoes, Carrie’s not sure what to think about the broken man sitting at her counter. She’s even more confused when he doesn’t touch his coffee . . . and leaves his Rolex watch as a tip.

Josh Bennett has nothing to live for.

Starved for affection and deep in despair, he’s looking for a tender touch. A kind word. A giving heart.

A shattered and broken Josh finds himself standing on a city bridge, looking down into the freezing river that will undoubtedly bring an end to his pain.

He’s prepared to jump.

He’s prepared to die.

He’s not prepared for the pretty waitress who finds him there by the water’s edge.

When two lost souls find each other in the dark of the night, can they give each other a reason to breathe again?

This story. Just this story. *sighs*

I have cried like a baby in this. God, so much sadness and heartache. Both Carrie and Josh have lost so much in their lives and they’re just trying to put it all behind in the past, but God! Their loss is terrible and I don’t even know how they got past it. I mean, how can someone get over such momentous grief? It becomes a part of them, following them everywhere. Just like it’s shown in the story.

But, I love how brave Carrie is in the face of adversity. She’s actually, genuinely, honest to God trying to move forward with her life and leave her past behind. I commend her for that. And despite everything, she is such a kind, thoughtful person. So, I like her for that even more. I mean, she has so many reasons to be bitter and cruel, but she doesn’t let those reasons win. She fights them and tries to be the best person she can be. I admire her strength and her courage. I admire how she’s so understanding and such a pillar of support to Josh, helping him get his life back after he breaks. It’s beautiful to read.

And, then, Josh. His story made me cry. So bad. What he’s lost, what he’s gone through, I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It just makes my heart ache so bad, seeing how he is now, how he’s going through motions after the one incident tore his life apart. I wanted to go inside the story and give him a huge tight hug. I wanted to hug him and never let him go. It was a treat to see how he got his life back in order after Carrie came into it and how she was there for him every step of the way. I loved seeing Josh transform from a broken man with no will to live into this amazing, caring person who was full of love and gratitude.

This book is so well written and so beautiful. I adore it. I have a lot of feels for it. It’s amazing, beautiful and just the best thing ever. I adore this book a whole lot and all fans of romance out there must go and read this pronto!

Dating – ish, Penny Reid – Blog Tour

Dating-ish, an all new standalone from the USA Today bestselling Knitting in the City romantic comedy series by Penny Reid is available now!

20170306 Dating ish 01 (2)

‘Dating-ish’ can be read as a standalone, is a full length 100k word novel, and is book #6 in the Knitting in the City Series.

There are three things you need to know about Marie Harris: 1) She’s fed up with online dating, 2) She’s so fed up, she’s willing to forego the annoyance and consider more creative alternatives, and 3) She knows how to knit.

After the most bizarre and irritating first date in the history of humankind, Marie is looking for an alternative to men. With the help of her friends, she quickly identifies a few possibilities:

Need a cuddle? Use a professional cuddler. Need affirmation? Get yourself a life coach. Need an orgasm? Try orgasm meditation! Why does she need the hassle of a romantic partner when she can meet all her needs with paid services?

But then her irritating date resurfaces. And he’s not at all the person she thought he was. And he suggests a different–and crazier–solution to her dilemma . . .

As everyone knows (or will soon come to realize), traditional relations between humans are a thing of the past. Robots are our future. And if robots are our future, then why do we need other people at all?

*ARC received as part of a blog tour. The thoughts are entirely my own and in no way biased.*

So, as you all know, I am a Penny Reid fanatic. I absolutely love all of her work. She has a way with words that always  leaves me smiling and wanting more. I have yet to be disappointed by any of her books and I am so glad that the trend continued with Dating – ish.

Dating – ish is the cute love story between Marie and Matt, two people who meet through an online dating site (not for reasons you are imagining, let me assure you.) and form a reluctant friendship. As time passes, they start spending more time together and then eventually fall for each other. I love the way the story is told. The slow burn romance is just so frustrating at times but then when you reap the rewards… AAHHH! Let me tell you, it is so worth the torture you went through.

Both Matt & Marie have reasons to not want to be in a committed relationship and they decide early on that they’ll be friends. But, that doesn’t stop Marie from developing feelings for Matt and as time passes and their relationship progresses, she starts to hope that Matt feels the same. They hit a few snags along the way but eventually get their heads out of their behinds. Thank God for that!

What I like about Marie is how determined and strong willed she is. She is focused on her career, but her friends are equally important to her. She is incredibly smart. She likes to knit. She’s a great cook. She’s thoughtful and kind. It was easy to identify with Marie because we share so many personality traits. It warmed me to her even more. I like how her character grows through the story. It is real and believable and not something that just happens overnight.

Matt. What should I say about this man? *sighs* When the story began, I honest to God hated him. He came off as a douche and narrow minded and just so selfish. But, as the story progressed, he just became so damn likable and thoughtful and cute! He was just this dorky, cute guy and I started to like him and then eventually love him too.

And, of course. The romance. It was such a slow burn. God, I was absolutely dying of anticipation and frustration. Throughout the book I was like “GET TOGETHER ALREADY!” This GIF below is so me throughout the book before they got together.

And then I absolutely rejoiced when they did get together. It was so fulfilling and all I could think was finally. It was awesome!

Apart from the shipping, I loved the friendships throughout the story. What I love about Penny’s books is that friendship is so important. And the ladies of the Knitting in the City series are absolutely amazing friends. They’re always there for each other no matter what and they’re just such good friends and sounding boards and pillars of support. I love it. I also love how these ladies carry on intelligent conversation that doesn’t center all around men. They talk about so many different things. It is such a delight to read all that.

I love this story. I do. I love it so much. And you should most definitely read it too! Go, grab your copy ASAP!

He was quiet for bit, we both were, and I felt myself relax more and more. His palm took a detour every so often, dutifully skipping my hip and sliding along my side, and then back to my leg. Soon, I was so relaxed I felt drowsy.

I felt fingers in my hair, moving the mass away from my neck with treasuring strokes just before Matt nuzzled the back of my neck, causing goosebumps to scatter over my skin.

“Mmm.” I smiled. “Hey. Jared said no tickling.” My voice sounded sleepy.

“Does this tickle?” Matt asked softly, nuzzling me again. I felt the brush of his lips—not a kiss, a brush—paired with hot breath against the bare skin of my neck and a zing shot straight down my spine, making my toes curl and a sudden hot ache twist in my lower belly.

Oh no.

I knew that ache. I hadn’t felt it because of another person’s touch in quite a long time. Nevertheless, no one ever forgets that ache.

My back arched instinctively, my bottom pressing back against his crotch, and I stiffened. I felt my nipples harden, strain beneath the cotton of my bra. I was now fully awake. No longer drowsy.

Not even a little.

Matt stiffened, too. His movements abruptly ceasing.

“Are you okay? What’s wrong?” he asked, alarm coating his words, and in the next moment his hand was suspended in the air above me. “Did I touch something I shouldn’t?”

I exhaled a short, nervous laugh, gripped by the urge to sit up.

“No. No. You didn’t.” I moved to the edge of the bed, righting myself, away from Matt, needing distance. “I’m good.” I gathered a silent breath and released it slowly because my pulse was racing.

Crap, Marie. Get a grip. It’s Matt Simmons. Professor Matt. The big kid. Why are you reacting this way?

“Did I . . .” These initial words were hesitant, and a moment of silence stretched before he continued, his tone comically teasing as he finished his thought. “Did I arouse you?”

I snorted, shaking my head, laughing at his silly tone. Turning at the waist to peer at him over my shoulder, Matt was grinning at me, twisting a make-believe mustache between his thumb and forefinger.

But then he stopped.

“I did, didn’t I?” he pushed, his hand dropping. He looked pleased, if not a little amazed.

I sighed, feeling a smidge embarrassed, and nodded. “Actually, yes. That’s a sensitive spot for most women.”

“The back of your neck?” He lifted himself to one elbow, his eyes darting to my neck with keen interest.

“My neck in general, actually.”

“Huh.” Matt frowned thoughtfully. “Where else?”

I pressed my lips together and gave him an incredulous look. “I’m not telling you that.”

“Why not?”

“What if I needed it for research reasons?”

“What if I told you it was part of our questionnaire?” He tossed his legs over the side of the bed and stood, walking around to my side and offering me his hand. “You should give me a schematic of your body with the erogenous zones circled and rated.”

“Let me guess, you want them rated on a ten-point scale,” I deadpanned as I accepted his hand, stood, and stepped away to gain some distance and straighten my shirt.

He shrugged, crossing his arms, stalking after me. “Or exponential. I was going to say a Likert scale, but a logarithmic scale works, too.”

Chuckling, appreciative of his attempt to diffuse my embarrassment and awkwardness with the joke, I realized Matt Simmons wasn’t a bad guy. He might even be a good guy, just a little . . . peculiar.

And wants to replace romantic relationships with robots. Best not forget that detail.

Yeah, he’d make an interesting friend.

“Thanks.” I gave him a small smile.

“For what?” His eyes moved between mine.

“For the cuddle. Thanks for the cuddle, Matt.”

“Anytime, Marie.” He grinned down at me, his eyes dancing as he leaned forward and whispered, “Anytime.”
