Blood of the Prophet, Kat Ross – Book Review

1459165497497

30228183Visionary. Alchemist. Savior. Saint.

The Prophet Zarathustra has been called many things. Now he spends his time drawing pictures of weird-looking goats. That’s what happens when you’ve been stuck in a prison cell for two hundred years. But the man who might be mad, and is definitely supposed to be dead, has suddenly become very valuable again…

It’s only been a few weeks since Nazafareen escaped the King’s dungeons with her daēva, Darius. She hoped never to set foot in the empire again, but the search for the Prophet has led them to the ancient city of Karnopolis. They have to find him before Alexander of Macydon burns Persepolae, and Darius’s mother with it. But they’re not the only ones looking.

The necromancer Balthazar has his own plans for the Prophet, and so does the sinister spymaster of the Numerators. As Nazafareen is drawn in to a dangerous game of cat and mouse, her newfound powers take a decidedly dark turn. Only the Prophet understands the secret of her gift, but the price of that knowledge may turn out to be more than Nazafareen is willing to pay…

I cannot express in words, the amount of love I have for this series. I absolutely LOVED THE FIRST BOOK and dove right into the second one, not giving myself a chance to come out of the world of The Fourth Element Series. I’m glad that I had all the books before I started reading because I CANNOT GET ENOUGH OF THIS!

The world building is insanely amazing. I have no words. Really. I’ve blabbered about it in the review for the first book, but I don’t have words as to how much I love it. It’s so good. And the characters. My, my! Such good characters. They’re understated in the best way and they’re so different and complex and you don’t realize just how multi faceted they are in the first go. They’re constantly changing, growing and building. I love that!

I love that there was no love triangle. Thank you, Kat! Seriously, I LOVE THAT FACT. SO VERY MUCH. Love triangles are a sort of pet peeve of mine and I don’t like them, but they’re sort of given in most books and I brave through them because I like the other aspects of the book. But, here, it was just Darius and Nazarfeen and no unwanted third players and I really like that. I also like that the romance was not overtly done. While it’s a huge part of the story, it’s not everything. Many a time, the romance tends to overshadow the rest of the plot, but that didn’t happen here. And, the characters didn’t go about declaring their love for each other constantly or making any grand gestures, but the ove they felt for each other was visible in the way they cared for each other, in the way they were always around each other. I admire that.

The story was a little slow in the beginning, but it was still good and the end left me with no complaints. I really liked the way it was written and all the situations and all the plots and sub plots were great!

All in all, it is an absolutely amazing read and it does complete justice to the first book in the series! I can’t wait to start reading the next one in the series which I’m gonna do as soon as I’m done posting this!

I’ve always loved to read more than anything in the world, especially so-called genre stories—mysteries, fantasy, sci-fi, thrillers, horror. I like books that take you by the hand and lead you out of the mundane. That ease back the curtain and show you the wondrous and dark and unexpected lurking just around the next corner. I worked in journalism for a long time before I returned to writing fiction. Guess which is more fun?

I can safely say that this book is one of the most eccentric and different books that I have read till date. It is a unique mixture of romance, fantasy, sci – fi, mystery and thriller all wrapped into one totally awesome package for you to read and amaze at.

Apart from the distinct plot of the book, the writing is simply amazing. I love it! The way the author brings out the various plot lines, the emotions, the setting – it is all amazing. And so amazingly done. It is beautiful and lovely and just so awesome. (I feel like I am out of words with this! :P)

But seriously, it is just so awesomely done, I do not have any other words to describe it. The characters are amazing, the setting is phenomenal and the plot is mind blowing. So, there is little to none that is to hate about this book. It has so many elements that readers of each genre can find something for them in this book.

And, the best part is that nothing is overdone, which makes the reader appreciate all that is tried to be projected in the book. I love how we’re left guessing till the end of the book and the mystery is only properly unraveled in the end. Also, the chemistry is absolutely sizzling. Hunter and Aeris. Oh MYYYYYYYYYY!!!! It is just so… oooohhhhh! I do not have proper words to describe it!

All in all, this is one kickass book that definitely needs your love!

What can I say about this book? It’s super cute and adorable and funny and witty and just so much fun to read!

This is my first middle grade read, so understandably, I was a little skeptical as to whether I’d like it or not. But, just the first chapter into the book and I knew my worries were for nothing. This book is sooooooo awesome!

It’s about a group of friends who help one of their own for an English credit so that they can all go to camp for the rest of the summer. And, the task is a treasure hunt of sorts. Yeah! Treasure hunt! I absolutely love those things. So, of course, I loved this too!

The characters are young and cute and adorable and awkward and sarcastic and funny. It is so much fun to read each one of them. I love all of them, really. They’re just toooo awesome!

The plot is amazing and the writing is fabulous. There isn’t anything that should really stop you from reading this story because it is soooooo amazing! Trust me. Go read!

Death In Neverland, Heather C. Myers – Book Review

1459165497497

24174572In the Neverland, people don’t grow up. Because they’re dead.

Remy Cutler dies, and somehow escapes certain death. She returns to the land of the living with nothing but a ripped gown and a fear of heights.

Two years later, she plans to escape her arranged marriage by stowing away onto a ship in hopes to leave her home with no one none knowing. However, she is found out, and the sailors aren’t happy. Before any damage can be done, she is yanked from her predicament back to The Neverland, a place where death resides – the very place she escaped from years ago. Souls are ferried by her savior. To her, he’s known as Nick, but to The Neverland, he’s the slippery Nicholas Grey.

The more time Remy spends with Nick and his crew, however, the more she realizes he’s shockingly misunderstood. Pirates aren’t all bad the way gentleman aren’t all good. One such gentleman goes by the name of Peter, and he has nothing but power on his mind and revenge against Grey in his heart. And then there are those that are completely indiscernible, like James Hook, a Viking and ruler of The Other World, whose sole ambition is attaining more souls to rule over, no matter what the cost.

This dark retelling of Peter Pan infuses familiar characters created by J. M. Barrie with new characters and Greek mythology. It is the first in a trilogy.

Well, I have to be honest. This book wasn’t entirely my cup of tea. I mean, sure, it’s good, but this book isn’t really meant for me. It is too descriptive. Now, don’t get me wrong, descriptions are good, great even. But, I hate too much of description because, let’s face it, who wants to read paragraphs and paragraphs of description when you could read the plot going forward? Not me, for sure.

The characters though, are good and easy to like. Remy may come off as annoying, but you eventually learn to like her, because hey! Every character can redeem themselves within the course of the story, just the way that she does.

The plot is exciting and there’s a sense of adventure that totally encompasses the book, the way you would expect it to when you’re reading something even remotely related to Peter Pan.

I’m not entirely sure what my turn off for this was, because it is a great story, believe me, it is, but I just didn’t connect with it in a way I hoped I would. I mean, Neverland means Peter Pan and I LOVE Peter Pan, but this wasn’t for me. It maybe the perfect story for you though. So, if you love lots of action and adventure with romance thrown in, you should definitely read this!

Love in Neverland is as hard to capture as fairy dust. Luckily, Magdalena Trainor has no need for either. Love has never been at the forefront of her mind. Her sole focus is to keep an eye on Captain Nicholas Grey while James Hook – the only person Magda trusts – has Remy Cutler in his clutches. She doesn’t expect the task to be difficult – Nicholas Grey may have brawn but doesn’t appear to have any brain – except he turns out to be more than she bargained for. And not in a bad way.

For Remy Cutler, love in Neverland is impossible and uimportant. All she wants to do is get back home, back to her parents, her easy life, and even her undesirable arranged marriage with a man she has no passion for. James Hook may be beautiful, but he’s cold, and while he does not raise a hand to her, Remy is constantly left alone, isolated from everyone save for her handmaiden. Rey still has no idea why she’s so special, and James isn’t sharing what he’s planning to do with her either. There’s a threat looming over her head, and James Hook plays two parts: captor and protector. With no one left to trust but him, she puts her life – and heart – in his hand – and hook.

I’m a 23 year old college graduate with more than a few tricks up my sleeve, and I also happen to be a pretty big Ducks fan. Oh, and I’m a writer. Like, for real.

This story is just so… *sighs* An amazing feel – good romance for those of you looking for a light hearted read with the swoons. This book has the capability of lifting your mood infinitesimally and bringing a huge smile to your face. It’s smart and cute and adorable and beautiful and breathtaking. All at once.

But one day not too long ago, from the time the sun set to when it rose again, my entire life was contained within twelve precious hours.
Reflected back at me through a boy’s eyes.
Sampled by his lips.
Held tightly in his arms.

See, swoons? It is beautiful. The way the emotions of these two teens have been described is beautiful and heartwarming. You want them to be happy. You want them to be together. This book makes you route for them from the very beginning.

“I’ve met this girl, you see. A young lady. And she’s everything I’ve ever dreamed…what I’m trying to say is that she has all the qualifications for a fellow adventurer and I’m currently on an adventure with her. It’s too late to turn back now.”

The story begins with Dorothy meeting Arash at a hotel. They get talking when Arash returns Dorothy stuff that she left behind at one of the counters. They exchange numbers and then later in the night, Arash calls Dorothy to accompany him on an adventure to which she readily agrees. They decide that their adventure will be answering thirty six questions to each other which when answered in the presence of the other is guaranteed to make you fall in love with them. What happens that night changes their life for forever.

“I would be calm, naturally. Peaceful. Or maybe not, I take that back. On the contrary, my senses would be fully engaged and heightened to their maximum potential. I’d see everything and hear everything all around me, no matter where I was. I’d recognize it as the art and music of life. I’d taste the sweetness of a piece of fruit as if for the first time. A soft breeze would caress me and ruffle my hair like someone’s fingers massaging my scalp.”

These questions make them look into themselves. Make them think about what they want in life and what they’re doing to achieve it. These answers uncover their dreams and their desires and their fears. Of course, with the unearthing of the person they really are, it becomes sort of impossible to not fall in love.

“If we were characters in a book, or a movie or TV show, everything would work out perfectly and we’d live happily ever after.”

Throughout the story, these characters make you laugh, cry and just be happy about everything in your lives. They make you feel content and happy and lighthearted. They make you want to seize the day, to make your life what you want it to be. They make you believe that this is all you have and this is the life that you need to use to do everything you’ve ever dreamt off, because when are you going to do that?

“I want to live my life like there’s no hereafter. I can’t imagine anything as beautiful as what we have here, even with all the pain that comes with it. Look around you. This is already heaven. This is paradise.”

It is such a beautiful story. It really, really made me feel something. These two people are just teenagers, but their outlook on life and the way they think things makes you question your thoughts. It compels you to be the best version of you, to think things through before you make a decision.

“Like what it means to live entirely within a night like this. Take a chance. Be alive in the fullest sense of the word.”

What I love most about this book how it comes to a full circle. the way it ends is exactly the way it began, and yet the story has happened. It changed the lives of the characters.

This is an amazing story that I would recommend to anyone who wants to fall in love with falling in love. This is your perfect story come alive. Go, read!

The past is in his carvings. The future is in his hands.

THE GIRL IN THE RED HOOD has been looking for her mother for six months, searching from the depths of New York’s subways to the heights of its skyscrapers…

THE PRINCE looks like he’s from another time entirely, or maybe he’s just too good at his job at Ye Old Renaissance Faire…

THE ACTRESS is lighting up Hollywood Boulevard with her spellbinding and strikingly convincing portrayal of a famous fairy. Her name may be big, but her secrets barely fit in one world…

Fifteen-year-old Crescenzo never would have believed his father’s carvings were anything more than “stupid toys.” All he knows is a boring life in an ordinary Virginia suburb, from which his mother and his best friend have been missing for years. When his father disappears next, all Crescenzo has left is his goofy neighbor, Pietro, who believes he’s really Peter Pan and that Crescenzo is the son of Pinocchio. What’s more: Pietro insists that they can find their loved ones by looking to the strange collection of wooden figurines Crescenzo’s father left behind.

With Pietro’s help, Crescenzo sets off on an adventure to unite the real life counterparts to his figurines. It’s enough of a shock that they’re actually real, but the night he meets the Girl in the Red Hood, dark truths burst from the past. Suddenly, Crescenzo is tangled in a nightmare where magic mirrors and evil queens rule, and where everyone he loves is running out of time.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

When Jacob Devlin was four years old, he would lounge around in Batman pajamas and make semi-autobiographical picture books about an adventurous python named Jake the Snake. Eventually, he traded his favorite blue crayon for a black pen, and he never put it down. When not reading or writing, Jacob loves practicing his Italian, watching stand-up comedy, going deaf at rock concerts, and geeking out at comic book conventions. He does most of these things in southern Arizona.
