My Best Friend’s Ex, Meghan Quinn – Book Review

1459165497497

35004715When I found an eviction notice taped on my apartment door, I had two options: find a comfortable cardboard box to call home, or move in with Tucker Jameson.

Seeing that cardboard makes me feel itchy, I chose the latter. Which shouldn’t be that big of a deal Tucker is one of my good friends. And because he’s still pining after his ex-girlfriend and I’m trying to finish my nursing degree, there is nothing to worry about in the romance department, making my last semester an easy one to conquer.

Boy, was I wrong.

Rules are set, dinners are made, conversations are had, and a shirtless, swoony roommate walks around in nothing but a pair of black briefs, ruining me for every other man.

Before I know it, I turn into a panting, lust-filled woman begging for Tucker to kiss me, touch me, and show me exactly what is hiding under those briefs.

But with great orgasms, comes great consequences.

Tucker might be my friend and roommate but he’s also my best friend’s ex-boyfriend, making him completely off-limits. At least that’s what my brain is telling me, my heart is speaking an entirely different language.

My Best Friend’s Ex is the story of Tucker and Emma. Emma and Tucker have been friends since high school and Tucker used to date Emma’s best friend before a tragedy tore them apart. They haven’t spoken since the break up and then run into each other at a bar. Emma has 2 days to find a place to live before she’s evicted from her apartment because the bank is taking over her building. So, Tucker offers up his place, his brand new place that he’s originally bought for himself and Sadie, the ex. Not having another option, Emma agrees and moves in with him. The beginning of their living situation is awkward because Emma thinks her loyalty is with her best friend, but she can’t help rethink that because no matter what, Tucker is her friend too. Their past comes in the way and they’re both toeing around each other for a while before they settle into an easy friendship. But, as their friendship progresses, their feelings grow and the apparent forbidden nature of their relationship is difficult for the both of them to overcome.

I love how breezily this story flows. It is so natural and easy going. Not once did I think, oh this is too fast! Oh, this shouldn’t have happened. I was in for the ride from the beginning and it was a smooth and easy one. I liked it. I love how the author has written the relationship between Tucker and Emma. The slow burn is so SLOW. GOSH! But, I do adore the bond the two form as they progress towards their romance. I mean, I loved that though it was apparent that they were both attracted to each other, they rebuilt their friendship instead of jumping into bed together. That was so gratifying to read. So many brownie points for that, Meghan!

I love Tucker. God, do I ever love him. He is so amazing. It’s hard to not love him. So many times I just wished to go inside the story and wrap him up in a tight hug and take all his worries away. He’s such an amazing character. He’s loving and caring and funny and sweet and sexy. GAH! So, sexy! I adore him. I adore him so much. I love his character arc. He’s grown so much during the story, given up on so many things and realized so many others. His journey is amazing and I am so proud of him to have overcome all his demons and just be the best person he could be. It took a lot of effort and it shows. It’s amazing.

I like Emma too. She’s so focused and driven. But, Tucker brings out the carefree side in her and encourages her to let loose. She is so sweet. But, I hate that she was hung up on the fact that Tucker is Sadie’s ex. Yes, it’s a huge thing because Sadie is one of her best friend’s and she feels like she’s betraying Sadie by going out with Tucker. I understand that. Completely. But, I hate how she was always belittling their relationship, assuming that Tucker maybe comparing her to Sadie in everything. She assumed the worst of Tucker, that if push comes to shove he would leave her without even talking to him about it. I just hate how she wrote him off so easily. That is not fair to him.

But, Tucker just made me swoon with all his gestures to win Emma over. They were so grand but also heartfelt at the same time and I was just swept off my feet, seeing how much Tucker did care about Emma and how much he loved her. It was the most amazing thing ever.

All in all, My Best Friend’s Ex is a great read that has elements of romance, humour, drama and angst all wrapped up in one tiny package for you to read and enjoy. I certainly did! 😀

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.

Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

Lucian Divine, Renee Carlino – Blog Tour

luciandivine_03-1-1-1“My guardian angel is a drunk.”

Evelyn Casey’s life is at a standstill. She’s in her mid-twenties, struggling with the dating scene in San Francisco. Nothing seems to be working out, and she’s starting to think that she’ll live out her days in her crummy apartment with her overbearing roommate, Brooklyn. It’s absurd, but sometimes Evey longs for a guardian angel to show up and save the day.

And then he does. Seriously. His name is Lucian and he’s a guardian angel, been on the job for two thousand years. His sudden presence in her life is both good—he’s brilliant, witty, and warm—and bad—he’s brilliant, witty, warm, and hot as —-. But as perfect as Lucian seems, he’s got problems of his own. He’s taken up drinking and he’s brazenly inserted himself into Evey’s life, going against the greatest cosmic law ever created.

For Evey, the rules are simple: You are not allowed to hook up with your guardian angel. But sometimes fulfilling your destiny requires a leap of faith, a confrontation with God.

Yes, God as in God.

1459165556078

This book. *sighs* This book.

Lucian Divine is the story of Lucian, a guardian angel, who falls in love with the soul he’s assigned to protect, Evelyn. Lucian has been guarding Evey since she was born, but he’s also in love with her. Her constant trysts with other men have driven Lucian to alcoholism and one fine day, when he can’t take it anymore, he tells her everything – that he’s her guardian angel, that he loves her, that they can’t be together. Then, he erases her memory, but he doesn’t do it right because Evey still remembers him. Then, she falls for him and yada, yada, yada.

“You are everything to me. You’re the dream, the air, the reason, the cause for my whole existence.”

 – Lucian

It’s clear that the best thing about this story is Lucian. His love for Evey is so all consuming, so huge, so much, it pours out of him. He’s ready to die, just to be with her. And however hard Evey tries, she can’t convince him to kill her so that they can be together because hurting Evey causes him unbearable pain. He comes close once, but is unable to go through with it because it’s hurting Evey. Yes, he loves her a whole lot. I admire that about him. That he is so in love with her and he’s not afraid to tell it to the world. He literally tells everyone he meets about her. Even though his best friend, Zack and his supervisor, Mona, advice him against getting together with Evey, what with him being an angel and her being human, he overlooks them and goes on to marry her. But, then, trouble finds them and everything that could go wrong, goes wrong.

But, the determination that Lucian has, to always protect Evey, to love her more than his own life, is there within him throughout the story and that’s amazing. I love that about him!

“Evelyn, I’ve existed for more than two millennia. In two thousand years, I have watched over so many lives. At times, more than five souls were my responsibility alone. I’ve watched all of them die. I’ve held many of them while they were dying. It’s in my nature to do that, to give peace to my souls, to look out for them when I can, to sway the good ones to do the right thing, and to protect man and life here on Earth. I’ve watched over stunningly beautiful and brilliant women, but I have never felt love for any human the way I feel it for you. You are literally the air in my lungs.”

Now, then, what I didn’t like.

It was too insta love. I understand that Lucian is Evey’s guardian angel, so he’s made in such a way that Evey can’t help but love him and he’s been in love with her for years, but it still feels too rushed. They’ve just met and they’re spending every moment together, getting engaged in two weeks and married in two months. Whirlwind romance, yeah?

And, then, we know how Evey fell in love, sort of, but how about Lucian? I would loved his side of the story, before he told Evey who he was.

As much as the plot kept me on my toes, at times it felt like everything was happening too fast and I didn’t have the time to fully grasp what was actually happening. It was great that I didn’t get bored, but I would have liked it if there was a breather somewhere in the middle.

“Evey, next time, in the next life we’ll be together—that’s how this will be corrected. This will be righted. This can’t be our forever fate. Next time we’ll live together, we’ll die together. We’ll experience every war together, inside ourselves and outside in the world. We won’t be out of reach, unavailable, unattainable, just love longing to be. Let’s keep moving fast in opposite directions. Keep praying we meet on the other side. I’ll see you there; I know I will. I have to believe that. Watch for me. I’ll be barreling toward you, arms wide open, and then we’ll crash into each other with the force of two spent lives yearning to be one.”

All in all, it’s a great book with a good story, well rounded characters and nice writing style. I would recommend it to the romance fanatics who like the insta love trope and the drama that generally accompanies it.

OH MY GOD! THIS BOOK! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!

I am a complete sucker for forbidden romances, so it is no surprise that I love this. As if there was a way I wouldn’t love it?!!?!?!?!

I mean, I fell in love with it the moment I saw the cover. It was so good! All amazing and breathtaking and gorgeous. And then, I read the description and I loved it even more. Then, I read the actual book and HOLY FUCK! Yes, it is that good!

I mean, it is such an amazing love story. And, it has kings and princes in it and centers around the love story of a prince and a commoner. What else do you need in a story? This has romance and drama and action all in one amazing package, signed, sealed and delivered to you so that you can shamelessly devour it.

I love how the author gave the characters a chance to grow properly before the romance began. Like, really began. And then, there was all that amazing drama to add to the mix. So, what is not to like?

The story flows so amazingly that I didn’t really mind the fact that it took sometime before the plot picked up. I was enjoying the read anyway. I mean it just leaves you asking for more and more and more. It is that good. That ending though, it fucked me up. Really, it did. I mean, I did sort of anticipate a cliffhanger, but not THAT! Why would you do this to me? It just left me wanting to read the next book right now! Which, sadly is not possible because I don’t think the second book is even close to releasing right now, so I have to sit and wait! I HATE THAT!

Apart from the cliffie ending, this book is amazing and a must read! Seriously, guys! So awesome. So, so awesome!

EXCERPT

Kat had just stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around her body when she heard the doorknob rattle.

“Just a minute!” It was probably her dad trying to check on her.

The brass knob rattled again.

“Almost done,” she said as she tucked the towel more firmly about her body, mentally smacking herself for forgetting to pack her long robe.

When she unlocked the door, it flew open instantly. A shirtless Tristan stood there, holding a towel, looking down at her with those hypnotic blue-green eyes.

Her eyes, without approval from her brain, swept down over his body: the sculpted abs, the indentations of his pelvic muscles, and the way his jeans hung low on his hips. Hips she’d held and dug her nails into the other night as he’d pounded into her. Her lower body twisted and clenched with sudden desire at the mere memory of his raw, powerful possession of her. She couldn’t forget the feel of his body, pressing her down, his cock filling her until she couldn’t breathe. The way he’d owned every part of her.

Damn. How had she convinced herself that avoiding him was a good idea? Right now she wanted to drop the towel and beg him to take her, damn the consequences.

“Are you finished?” His tone was pleasant. No hint of fire, no branding scorch of his gaze…just politeness. He was doing exactly what she’d asked him to do. Treat her like a stepsister he’d only just met. Before today’s awful revelation of their parents’ engagement, he would have smirked at her, teased, and tried to steal the towel… A pang of longing for the playful part of him swept through her. God, she missed that.

What would it take to win one little smile from him, one that was meant for her, and not tempered by his polite distance.

I asked for this. It didn’t make her feel any better.

“I’m done.” Heat rushed to her face from embarrassment at her inner thoughts. Thankfully he had no idea how conflicted she was feeling right now. Or how her body was reacting to being so close to him and being denied his touch. Like a thirsty woman crawling across a Saharan desert and glimpsing an island oasis only to discover it was a mirage.

He made a low, gruff noise, not exactly a response, but it sent shivers through her. She couldn’t forget the sounds he’d made in bed two nights ago. He’d been half-animal, growling, nipping, showing her a rough side to passion, one she knew she would always crave. Tristan had pierced a dark part of her sexual side, exposing it to the light, and she couldn’t deny that it existed, nor did she want to.

He slid past her, their bodies brushed in the narrow space of the doorway. Heat exploded through her, and she froze, trying to control her reaction to him.

Tristan froze, too, their bodies pressed close. His warm breath fanned her cheeks and his natural masculine scent enveloped her. Memories of their night together came flooding back, no matter how she tried to keep it out.

He lifted his hand to her cheek, pausing a second before he would have touched her. She met his gaze, her breaths shallow as his lips twitched in a ghost of a smile. Then he brushed his knuckles over her skin. Fire rippled in the wake of that “barely there” caress. Every part of her was aware of him and his closeness.

Would it be so hard to keep a relationship between them a secret from their parents? Maybe they could…

“Please…” she begged, unsure of what she really wanted.

“Please, what?” he replied, in that dark, low tone that made her purr inside like a cat in heat. He slowly backed her into the wall next to the shower, closing the door behind him. He placed his hands on either side of her head, caging her in, and lowered his face to hers.

A feather-light, teasing kiss. A nip at her bottom lip. She clenched her thighs together, feeling the rush of wet heat in response to his subtle aggression. How could he affect her like this? His touch, his kiss, sent her body into riotous waves of longing for him.

He nuzzled her neck, licking and nibbling on the sensitive spots that sent electric pulses from her head to her toes.

Kat grabbed his shoulders, digging her fingers into his hot, bare skin. The towel around her body stretched against her breasts as she struggled to control her breathing.

His hands dropped from the wall to her waist, tugging on the folds of the towel that barely covered her.

It would be so easy, he could lift my towel up and fuck me right here against the wall. Just one more time, we could…

The towel dropped to the floor.

I will start by saying that Michelle is absolutely awesome! I adore her! ❤

I’ve read her work on Wattpad and became a fan the minute I read the first chapter of her novel! So, when I found that one of her novels was getting published, naturally I had to read it. And, I wasn’t disappointed!

All the characters are so well portrayed and they have their distinguished, individual voices. The descriptions and the scenes flow oh – so very smoothly. Also, the story develops at a fast pace which keeps the reader interested and unable to keep the book down.

It all pans out beautifully to make one heck of a story.
I loved it so much that I actually was hiding behind my laptop at work and reading on my phone. And, the last book I did that for was November 9. So, yeah. You get the picture.

The heroine, Cadence ‘Cade’ is fierce, independent and level headed. She’s immensely strong willed. She loves her grandmother a lot (So many brownie points for that, Cade!) and values her job, which is being Harley’s bodyguard, a little too much. The bond that she shares with Harley is really beautiful. I love it.

The hero, Jackson ‘Jax’ is a certified sexy beast. He’s the lead singer in one of the leading rock bands. Yeah, sexy beast, right? But, he’s also a father. A father who’s been absent in his daughter’s life for a long time and a father who’s trying to make things right with her. He doesn’t know the first thing about raising a child, but the way he is with Harley is so heartwarming. He tries, he tries so hard, to bond with her and try to be a good father that it just really, really melts my heart.

And, of course, there’s Harley. Sweet, little Harley, who’s suffered a little too much as compared to the rest of the eight – year olds of the world. Between a mostly absent father and an ignorant mother (who’s too busy living her life with her new husband and looking for a fix), she’s a lot more subdues and grown up than she should be. Her only ray of light, her grandmother, passes away, leaving her more recluse than ever. And, it is Cade, who takes the first step in breaking down those walls. The bond that Harley and Cade share, right from the beginning of the story is so good and pure, you can’t help but love it.

So, yes, this is a must freakin’ read. It’s lovely, smart, humorous, sexy and romantic all in the right places. I adore it! I think it’s gorgeous, sensational, beautiful, mind boggling, phenomenal and any other such word that you may find in the dictionary (because I can’t bring myself to open a thesaurus.)
