50 Cups of Coffee, Khushnuma Daruwala – Book Review

1459165497497

35131792A rip-roaring and charming account of dating in India
Dating is an undeniably daunting task, especially when you are looking for the real deal to settle down with. So when Dia, a 30-something woman, signs up on a dating website for people looking to get married, she realizes just how delightful, vexing, amusing and befuddling looking for the perfect husband can be. Based on her real-life experiences, this book is not a guide to dating, but rather a delightful collection of meeting potential partners, epiphanies about them and soul-searching questions that will make you see relationships without your rose-tinted glasses of love.
Particularly pertinent to this age of online dating, hilarious, honest and witty, this delicious-as-a-cappuccino book is for all those looking for love, in love or in between. With advice as sage (gained the hard way) as that in He’s Just Not That Into You and scenarios as funny and outrageous as those in Sex and the City, 50 Cups of Coffee is the perfect book to curl up with when a suitable bae is not available.

50 Cups of Coffee, is an account of 50 coffee dates gone wrong. The accounts in themselves are absolutely hilarious, with everything that could possibly go wrong going wrong.

The author uses beautiful imagery to draw us in and explains what is exactly wrong with XYZ using cool metaphors. I LOVE IT! I mean, they refer to fairytale expectations and Tom & Jerry and whatnot and whonot. IT IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!

The little cups of wisdom after each date gone wrong are equally amazing and totally entertaining. Seriously, ladies, they are words to live by. Literally. We’d have a much better existence if we did so.

I absolutely love the writing style in this book. It is fluid and unapologetic. The author opines on anything and everything and she microscopically analyses all these guys the dates are with and she doesn’t shy away from saying anything. I like that.

I also like how it was the writing style and the constant reminders of what could go wrongs and all the metaphors just kept me entertained. I mean, I was laughing almost the entire time I read this not only because the situations these women got into were hilarious (for print. If something like that happened to me, I might very well have been traumatized.) but also because the way the author presented them made it so much more enjoyable.

I also love how real the women were. The stuff they did is what I do or you do or anyone does. You judge, you stare, you obsess, you worry. All that and more is honestly just hashed out in this book and is in black and white for the whole world to see. Which is great! I liked that I could relate to what was happening and that is a huge bonus!

I especially loved the end and how the entire book wrapped up with this great last line. It had me smiling and feeling just so very good at having read this book. GAH!

All in all, this is a definite must read! Hilarious and quintessential, this book will not let you down. Ever.

An Interview with Aanchal Budhiraja aka TooHotToBeTrue2 on Wattpad

(Of the Baking With Boys fame)

Okay, so I’ll start by saying that this is my first interview, ever (where I’ve been the interviewer, of course. There’ve been a shit ton of interviewee interviews in my life. We can thank my need for a job for that one.)

Any how, we’re getting off topic. This is my first interview and Aanchal is a dear friend of mine. So, if we’re absolutely, ridiculously unprofessional or we talk absolute shit, please forgive me. You’ve been warned.

Time to start!

I think this is the part where I introduce the guest for today/tonight/whatever time you’re reading this on.

And that person is Aanchal Budhiraja! A 20 year old college student, pursuing her masters in economics, Aanchal loves to write quirky stories about love, friendship and adventure, always leaving us wanting more with the abhorrent cliffhanger endings for each chapter. She loves to dye her hair in awesome colors and works out at odd hours of the day (seriously. Odd hours. She works out at midnight. So, you can say she is obsessed.)

She’s best known for her stories Baking With Boys and The Demon Babysitter.

Now that we know who we’re meeting today, let’s get started!

What can I say about this book? It’s super cute and adorable and funny and witty and just so much fun to read!

This is my first middle grade read, so understandably, I was a little skeptical as to whether I’d like it or not. But, just the first chapter into the book and I knew my worries were for nothing. This book is sooooooo awesome!

It’s about a group of friends who help one of their own for an English credit so that they can all go to camp for the rest of the summer. And, the task is a treasure hunt of sorts. Yeah! Treasure hunt! I absolutely love those things. So, of course, I loved this too!

The characters are young and cute and adorable and awkward and sarcastic and funny. It is so much fun to read each one of them. I love all of them, really. They’re just toooo awesome!

The plot is amazing and the writing is fabulous. There isn’t anything that should really stop you from reading this story because it is soooooo amazing! Trust me. Go read!

Princess of Tyrone, Katie Hamstead – Book Review

1459165497497

Young girl with a crystal ballApolline is happy hunting magical creatures on her pirate infested outer-perimeter planet. She is a fantastic shot, and doesn’t flinch at the blood and guts of her kills. Never once did she consider she could be the missing Princess of Tyrone.

All her life, she has heard the story of the Princess, cursed to sleep for eternity, unless her betrothed, the Prince of Oran, gave her true love’s kiss. Although Apolline knows she is betrothed, she thinks her fairy guardians arranged it out of ignorance of human ways. The thought she could be a princess is inconceivable.

Then Allard appears. Handsome, charming—but he’s not hers to have. He’s betrothed, too. Her guardians warn her against her new found friendship, but she and Allard meet in secret anyway. Despite her rough exterior, he sees beyond her gun-slinging bravado, and their love blossoms.

But the deadline for the sleeping curse is approaching. If Apolline falls in love with the wrong person, she could end up sleeping forever.

A quirky, adventurous retelling of Sleeping Beauty, with a less than princess-ly princess!

So, where am I supposed to begin with? Maybe with the fact that I absolutely, absolutely adore this book! It is a splendid combination of humor, drama, romance and action and I am in love! ❤

tumblr_inline_o0iejnmucl1r4jktp_500

First and foremost, I am an absolute sucker for fairy tales. Yes, I’m that kinda girl. The one who believes in Prince Charming and his white horse and being swept off of their feet. So, yes, the prospect of fairy tales naturally excites me and that just makes this story all the more better.

In this retelling of Sleeping Beauty, there’s elements of Hansel and Gretel and Cinderella and The Red Riding Hood and Snow White, which is, without a doubt, my most favorite part about the story. I love it. I absolutely freakin’ love it! There are no other words.

But, other than that, this is a beautiful story. The way that it has been captured and told is stunning. The plot twists are absolutely awesome, the character development is fantastic and the arc of the story progresses beautifully. This story does not feel forced for even a second. There is a reason for each and every scene, every interaction and every moment. I love how it all comes together in the end and we understand that why that one scene in the beginning was so important for the story to progress. Katie is a truly gifted writer and I am in absolute awe of her story. ❤

Coming of the characters, they’re well written. They’re complex and varied, each one having their own purpose and reason. All characters have their distinct voices which come out strongly through the story and help build their personality. The dialogue flows smoothly and there isn’t anything that is forced or awkward or unnecessary.

My favorite character is without a doubt, Appoline. She’s smart and brave and kind hearted and head strong and I love her. She never backs down from a challenge and she’s always on top when it comes to helping people. She’s totally unafraid and brave. She’s also a kickass huntress which gives her a billion points. She’s cute and adorable and easily embarrassed, but she can dish it out just as well and have you turn into a puddle of goo (not the swoony, I’m – in – love – with – you – kind, but the embarrassing kind) in seconds. So, yeah, she’s like a walking paradox but she’s the most amazing thing ever! ❤

And then, there’s Allard. Sweet, sexy and absolutely delicious Allard. He, as you guessed, is the hero. He’s smart and brave and intelligent. He’s like super intelligent and genius which is what saves his life. Yeah, he’s alive because of his quick thinking and an ability to solve riddles, so that is extremely important. Other than that, he’s funny and determined and doesn’t back down without a fight. He’s the most kind hearted man ever. He loves and loves and loves. And, he’s respectful and duty bound and just the most amazing man ever. I love him. I seriously totally love him.

Together, Appoline and Allard make an awesome pair. They’re completely suited for each other and reading their story has made me feel incredibly happy! 😀

This story is a definite must read for all you romance fans out there! Especially if you believe in fairy tales.
