Apprehension, Sylvie Parizeau – Book Review

1459165497497

33311453ZAC Di FIORI’s life is about to turn one-eighty degrees North.

I lived my life one thrill at a time, never setting down roots, never believing I’d ever find a place to call Home.
Until Magali.
The moment those silver eyes blaze right through me, I’m a goner. The way she sees past my defenses, her passion for helping others, the gentle touch she has with children … Everything about her tells me I’ve finally done the impossible. I’ve found my forever.
But after an entire lifetime of being alone, orphaned under suspicious circumstances and shipped off to boarding school by a pathetic excuse for family, forever seems too good to be true. And I know all too well how quickly it can be taken away.
But Magali has a way of drawing me out of the past, and looking toward a future filled with family.
Turns out finding Home isn’t so impossible after all … All I have to do is believe in it.

I read my first Parizeau novel sometime last year and absolutely fell in love. Her story was so, so beautiful and it gave me so many feels that I became a fan. (You can read my review for that here. And, after that bit of shameless self promotion, we shall move on.)

Apprehension is the second standalone installment of Incandescently – the story of two unlikely people falling in love and their happily ever after and everything in between. Liam and Eolie had stolen my heart from the get go and I absolutely admired their relationship. So, of course, I was excited to read about the other characters from that book. And, now I did.

Apprehension is the story of Zac, one of Liam’s friends, and his journey to finding his happily ever after. The same had been hinted in Incandescently and I really enjoyed reading about the journey he had before reaching there.

Like Incandescently, Apprehension focused on the relationship between the two main characters – Zac and Magali. It was such a treat to read about them. They’re such a cute couple and I loved them – individually and together. Zac, though arrogant at times, was endearing. He was charming and funny at all the right times and I laughed so hard on reading his interactions with the GGS squad. And Magali – she was so unapologetic in her faults, embracing who she was that it was amazing to see. She was the source of constant support and love to Zac whenever he needed it and that warmed my heart.

Their story was beautiful and heartwarming and such an incredible journey that I couldn’t help but love it. Another thing that I absolutely loved about this was that Liam & Eolie were a constant presence in this story and I got more than my fill for these two sweethearts! It was so amazing to see them again! 😀

All in all, a great, beautiful, hearty read for all romance fans out there! 🙂

Incandescently
Sylvie Parizeau
Publication date: October 22nd 2016
Genres: New Adult, Romance

LIAM O’SHEA, bestseller author of the SciFi saga, Eiloe.

All I knew was pain – a childhood filled with cruelty and villains who used and abused.

Until Éolie.

I first heard her sweet, angelical voice in the dark of night, when I lay bathed in my own impending death. Seventeen years later, it’s not the nightmare she pulled me out of that haunts me, but the glimpse of Happily Ever After she revealed just before disappearing.

They said she was a figment of my boundless imagination. A wish. A dream. Until I had no choice but to believe them, cherishing my imaginary savior the only way I knew how – in fiction and lore.

But fantasy has a way of transforming reality. When I finally tire of being a citizen of the world, I take an impromptu sabbatical as a professor at a small college on the coast of Maine. And there I see her, the girl with the sea-green eyes and angelic voice.

My world turns upside down. Turns out my girl is for real, and the pull between us is anything but imaginary.

Happily Ever After has a story … and this one is mine.

1459165556078

Incandescently is the story of finding a Happily Ever After. I love that. This just a journey of two people who’re in love and how they adjust to being together and starting a life together. And I think that that’s brilliant.

The story starts with Liam, the hero, a scifi writer taking on the position of a guest lecturer at a college. He starts having bad dreams about Eolie, a girl he’s talked to his mind in the past  when he was a child, a girl who his therapist has convinced him is just a figment of his imagination and nothing more. But, he’s having dreams about her and she’s in danger and he needs to find her. So, he gets his best friends on it and they’re all desperately searching for her and here, Eolie reaches the college, in search of Liam. They meet and they fall in love. And find their happily ever after. That is the story of Incandescently.

The story is beautifully written and I love it. I love the friendship Liam shares with the rest of his squad. All the boys ready to lay their lives down for each other. I love the instant connection between Liam and Eolie and how that develops through the story. I love the initial days when they’re getting to know each other, all the small moments they share that string along into such a big life. It’s beautiful.

Liam and Eolie are both such wonderful characters. They’re both so in love it makes my heart melt. Always hugging, kissing, cuddling. It’s really heartwarming. Gah! So adorable! Liam is extremely protective of Eolie and she’s just this burst of light that really brightens up everything around her.

What I don’t like is that the book doesn’t explain things. We don’t know how Eolie and Liam shared that connection, how they were able to talk to each other, how Eolie heals really quickly (and I mean in the blink of an eye quickly) and exactly what happened with Liam when he was a kid. We know the story superficially but not exactly. And there was so much potential to develop on with Eolie’s ability to reach out to Liam and with all the visions she had, but we don’t know how or why she had those. She just did. And that was the end of it. It was like a characteristic she had. Like brown eyes or blonde hair. She had visions. That is it. So, the book loses a lot of points for that.

But, I’m seriously in love with the whole dynamic of the book and how it’s based on the want of one person to find his ‘normal’, his version of ‘happily ever after’ and that’s what I absolutely adore about this. So, it gets some of those points back.

All in all, this a great read and I’d definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a light, feel good romance.

The Reflections of Queen Snow White, David Meredith – Book Review

1459165497497

18780192

What happens when “happily ever after” has come and gone?

On the eve of her only daughter, Princess Raven’s wedding, an aging Snow White finds it impossible to share in the joyous spirit of the occasion. The ceremony itself promises to be the most glamorous social event of the decade. Snow White’s castle has been meticulously scrubbed, polished and opulently decorated for the celebration. It is already nearly bursting with jubilant guests and merry well-wishers. Prince Edel, Raven’s fiancé, is a fine man from a neighboring kingdom and Snow White’s own domain is prosperous and at peace. Things could not be better, in fact, except for one thing:

The king is dead.

The queen has been in a moribund state of hopeless depression for over a year with no end in sight. It is only when, in a fit of bitter despair, she seeks solitude in the vastness of her own sprawling castle and climbs a long disused and forgotten tower stair that she comes face to face with herself in the very same magic mirror used by her stepmother of old.

It promises her respite in its shimmering depths, but can Snow White trust a device that was so precious to a woman who sought to cause her such irreparable harm? Can she confront the demons of her own difficult past to discover a better future for herself and her family? And finally, can she release her soul-crushing grief and suffocating loneliness to once again discover what “happily ever after” really means?

Only time will tell as she wrestles with her past and is forced to confront The Reflections of Queen Snow White.

So, this book? Oh, my God! This book is absolutely amazing! I LOVE IT! IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL! I ADORE IT!

The way that this book is written is absolutely phenomenal. The story is enchanting and gripping, and the writing is exemplary. You should totally go and read this. Right now.

This story explores Snow White’s life post the Happily Ever After that she had with her Prince Charming. It showcases her grief and her pain and her hopes. It is such a gripping narrative that you can’t help but just love it.

Snow is such a complex character and the emotions she experiences at any given point of time are showcased so beautifully in the story. This one has the perfect mixture of the ‘show and tell’ aspects of writing.

Any of you who are fans of fairy tales must definitely read this one. It gives so much more insight into Snow White as a character, it’s bloody brilliant. It wasn’t all sunshine and roses that Snow expected her life to be, but it was full of love and laughter. And that is what is important. Snow had a fulfilling life with her Prince Charming, but now she has to live a fulfilling life after he’s left her.

It is brilliantly crafted, amazingly written and beautifully showcased. I recommend this book to each and every one of you out there! Please go and read this amazing, amazing book! You’re seriously missing out if you haven’t read it yet!

This One Moment, Stina Lindenblatt – Book Review

1459165497497

25266476When Nolan Kincaid skipped town to chase the music career of his dreams, he knew he wouldn’t miss the reminders of his broken family—he wasn’t so sure he could forget the girl he left behind. Now his band is touring nonstop, the recording sessions go all night, and the groupies are crazed. But when he hears that Hailey Wilkins is in trouble, he drops everything.

Hailey thought she’d missed her chance with Nolan. Five years ago, the moment she realized she loved him was the moment he decided to leave. Now, when a brutal assault lands her in the ICU, Nolan flies straight to her bedside, acting like nothing’s changed. What’s a rock star like him doing, canceling shows and risking his record deal, just to nurse an old friend back to health? And why should Hailey believe he’ll stay this time?

With her attacker still at large, Nolan’s ready to rise to the occasion. He knows he let Hailey down once before, but he’s ready to give her everything, heart and soul—and he’ll fight for the chance to prove it.

*ARC provided in exchange for an honest review*

So, this is again a second chance romance.. My, they seem to be popular lately! :p

But, get this – big time rockstar who has the world at his feet and his best friend who he hasn’t talked to in years. His best friend who he most definitely had feelings for but didn’t do anything about them because he didn’t want to ruin their friendship.

And, then, he finds out that said best friend, Hailey, is in a coma. And that he might lose her, for good. That is not something that Nolan is ready for. He is not ready for this to be the end of whatever it is between him and Hailey. And, after such a close call, he can’t let her go. Not now, not ever.

But, she’s back home and he’s in LA and though he’s here for her now, he can’t uproot his life. He’s got a record to make and a band to look after, his shows and his fans and his life. It’s all in LA. Plus, home brings bad memories. It’s the place he lost his mother and his little sister and he’s not ready to relive those moments again. He’s afraid that going back will make him remember what he forgot. That horrific night when he lost them. PTSD, his doctors said. And thought it’s extremely childish of him, he’s not ready to remember yet.

This book is extremely well written. The story is amazing and the suspense is thrilling. Hailey’s attacker and Nolan’s memories and the whole mystery behind both of them is really, really intriguing. I love it. Also, there’s a lot of conflict in the book. The characters are at conflict between each other and in themselves as well. This serves for great character development. They’re both hesitant to give it their all because they haven’t talked in years. But, the distance has done nothing to diminish their love for each other and they are still very much in love and still really afraid of admitting it for the fear of being rejected.

It serves for a great plot and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The characters are so real and their struggles are so honest that you can’t help but connect with them. It’s amazing, really. Beautiful and gorgeous. Yes, it’s a little angsty in parts and there are parts that are dragged out but that just makes the ending more satisfying. It serves for a great, great read.

Overall, Hailey and Nolan are a great couple. They’ve made their mistakes and want to work past their issues to finding each other, but there’s something holding them back, always. They’re just so scared and afraid, it makes my heart ache for them and there were parts where all I wanted was to drag either of them to me and comfort them and make them realize that they loved each other and that they should go for it!

But, it’s never easy, is it? They have their demons and their issues and complications. There’s the possibility of it being a long distance relationship and there’s also the fact that Nolan’s label has entirely different plans for him. Ones which don’t include Hailey at all. Plus, there’s a fact that there’s killer on the loose. On who wants Hailey dead. So, yeah. They have tons and tons of issues.

Although, at the same time they’re so in love with each other. And, they’d do anything to make the other feel better and feel protected and safe. I love that about them. They may not see what’s in front of them but they love each other fiercely and honestly and completely. That kind of love is hard to come by. And I admire them for all the sacrifices they’ve made for each other. They’re a really great couple!

And, they surely deserve your time. Their story needs to be heard. And if you don’t read this, you’re seriously missing out!
