36544616Hemdeep Singh knows exactly what he wants. With his intelligence and determination, he has what it takes to build his own legacy away from Bharat, Inc. and the empire his father created. But when his brother calls him home, Hem puts his dreams on hold once again to help save the company he walked away from. That’s when he encounters the devastating Mina Kohli in the Bharat boardroom, and he realizes he’s in for more than he had bargained.

Mina will do whatever it takes to regain control of her mother’s law firm, even if it means agreeing to an arranged marriage. Her newest case assignment is to assist Bharat in the midst of a potential takeover. It could be the key to finally achieving her goal while preventing her marriage to a man she doesn’t love—as long as her explosive attraction to Hem doesn’t get in the way.

As Mina and Hem work to save Bharat, they not only uncover secrets that could threaten the existence of the company, but they also learn that in a winner-takes-all game, love always comes out on top.

The Takeover Effect is a fast paced, intriguing, and sexy story that centers around our two protags – Hemdeep “Hem” Singh and Mina Kohli, in the background of corporate espionage, hostile takeovers and mergers, and corporate politics thrown in with a bunch of family issues and angst. It was an amazing read and I finished it in one sitting. Once I started reading, it was almost impossible to stop because it was just so good. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. So very, very, very much.

harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows

The writing and plot in this story are very intense and gripping. I mean, there is so much happening with the takeover attempt and everyone seems to have their own agenda and then you just don’t know what is going to happen in the end, as regards to the takeover (I mean, it is a romance so the HEA/HFN is guaranteed, but I WAS SO INVESTED IN FINDING OUT WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO THE COMPANY!) Frankly, I have never really been interested in the background as something more than tools to move the story forward. But in this one, I was genuinely into the whole backdrop scenario and what would happen. So, points for that.

It also blended into the story perfectly and it was like an entity of its own in the story, like the characters. It was really so well done and I thoroughly enjoyed it. 😀

Complete brownie points for the punjabi dialogue littered throughout the story because it was so amazing to read it! I absolutely love it so, so, so much!!

tumblr_o6bj9h3hZP1re3x32o1_500

Mina, the female lead in the story, is a lawyer who wants to oust her uncles and take control of the law firm her mother built from scratch and which had been taken over by said uncles when she was just a teenager. She’s absolutely amazing. Her sheer determination to get back what was stolen from her is so nice to see and I absolutely rooted for her the minute she came on page. Her quick wit and snarky comebacks are just as brilliant. I loved her banter with Hem.

She loves her mother so much and it is so prevalent in everything she does. She wants to make her proud and be the daughter she thinks her mother would want her to be. And despite her go getter attitude, she has her own insecurities like any other person. I love how she’s portrayed as a whole. Absolutely phenomenal!

sandyshortimpala-small

And then there’s Hem. Quiet, complex, and understanding Hem who comes home at the first sign of trouble for his father despite their disagreements not too long ago. It is established right from the start that even though he doesn’t see eye to eye with his parents and they have all this shit between them, he cares a lot about his family and there isn’t anything he wouldn’t not do for them.

He is a fierce entrepreneur and lawyer and has the power to shut a room down with his presence and command over the room. But, he is also soft and understanding and supportive – for his brothers and Mina. He is also determined and doesn’t give up easily.

1-tumblr-com_

I adore the progression of Mina & Hem’s relationship throughout the book. It starts off as a mutual attraction they both deny at first but then it slowly buds into dating and then love and it’s just done so beautifully. I love how they both bond over their mutual love of Indian food and their mother tongue – Punjabi. They’re both very different in some aspects, yet so similar in others and they just fit together so well. They are both so in tune with each other and are always supportive which I like. Of course there are bumps along the way and then Hem does behave like a dick at times, but at the end of the day, they make each other happy and it was so good to read about!

PG9bkr5

All the characters were absolutely amaze and I loved them all. Hem’s family and Mina’s vapid uncles were all great characters and I loved them so much! They were well fleshed out and that was really nice to read. I think my favourite side characters were Hem’s brothers, Ajay & Zail. Their family had their issues, like any other family, but I loved the dynamic of this trio. They clearly admired and respected each other a lot and that was very visible throughout the story.

Over all, this was definitely a book I would recommend to every romance reader out there! ❤

*ARC received in exchange for an honest review. The thoughts are entirely my own and in no way biased.*

Aiden is the second book in the Vested interest trilogy and follows the love story of Aiden and Cami. They both have developed feelings for each other in the first book of the series, Bentley (which is not connected to this book except for a few references. You can read my review for it here – Bentley, Melanie Moreland – Book Review) but instead of getting into a relationship, they’re in a friends with benefits arrangement because Aiden is of the opinion that he is not boyfriend material and would not be able to give Cami what she needs were they in a relationship. Also, he has issues from childhood because of his dyslexia and his parents mistreating him which makes him difficult to trust people. So, will Cami and Aiden have their happily ever after?

I’d already liked both Cami and Aiden from the first book, but in this one, I started liking them more. They’re both great characters who aren’t perfect and are trying the best they can. I like how the story shows both of them messing up because they’re so stubborn and making mistakes.

Cami is absolutely awesome. I love how she cares for her friends and family. She’s sweet and kind and stubborn and understanding. She never pushes Aiden even though she really wants to know more about him. But, she’s always open about her feelings to him. She tells him she likes him and wants to be with him and when Aiden rejects the idea, she lets go. Yes, there are several occasions where she tries to get him to open up and tell her about his past, but she doesn’t push him to be with her and gives him space whenever he needs it, even though it hurts her terribly when he’s distant with her. Cami is always looking out for her friends and making sure they’re okay. At the same time, she’s also dealing with her own personal issues in the best way she can. For that, I admire her.

Then, there’s Aiden. I like the way he was honest to Cami about how he didn’t do relationships and he never lied to her or led her on. He genuinely, deeply cared for her and he always made sure to do everything in his power to make sure she was okay. He was a supportive friend throughout the story and his relationship with Bentley and Maddox was amazing. That being said, I didn’t like how he didn’t tell Cami the reason behind his reluctance to pursue a relationship for almost the entirety of the book. He refused to acknowledge the depth of his feelings and unnecessarily hurt Cami even though it was his issues that were creating problems. I feel like a lot of hurt and heartache for both of them could have been avoided if Aiden had told Cami everything right from the beginning, or you know, as they started getting closer. He didn’t tell her till the last possible moment and it was only after Cami almost died that he decided to do it.

I like that we saw more of Bentley and Emmy in this book. Those two were still adorable and cute as ever and I really loved this peek into their relationship after the events of Bentley. Of course, Maddox and Dee were an added benefit. I loved both of them too.

Aiden wasn’t as satisfying as Bentley was for me, but it was a good read nonetheless.

Bentley, Melanie Moreland – Book Review

1459165497497

36889238Three young men meet in university and form a lifelong friendship.

Their pasts dictate the men they are, but their present shapes their future.

What happens when these men meet the one person they are destined to be with? Can they fight their feelings and walk away? Or will they each succumb and learn the sweet agony of love?

Bentley

The leader of the group. He is uptight, formal, and cold. Rigid and set in his ways, always following the same path. Until the day, he stumbles upon her.
Emmy.
She brings with her spontaneity and light. The world she lives in is so different from his, yet he cannot control the draw to her. Nor can he explain the way she makes him feel.
Happy.
Protective.
Loved.

1459165556078

*ARC received in exchange for an honest review. The thoughts are entirely my own and in no way biased.*

Bentley follows the story of Winston Bentley Ridge, a closed off uptight businessman, and how he falls in love with spitfire Emmy with demons of her own.

What I absolutely love in this book is the supportive pseudo family both the main characters have. Their best friends have become their family over the years and they’re always there for Bentley & Emmy, every step of the way, providing support and comfort. I love that. Really, I do.

Aiden & Maddox, Bentley’s best friends are typical guys who’re always giving Bentley shit about everything and they make jokes about him being whipped all the time. But, they care for Bentley a lot and it shows in their actions throughout the story. And, they really like Emmy, always trying to make her feel comfortable after Bentley starts dating her and it’s really heartwarming to see their efforts.

Cami & Dee, Emmy’s best friends are just as good. They make sure that Emmy is always looked after. Emmy has had a hard life and she doesn’t like to rely on anyone for anything, but Cami & Dee help her to the best of their abilities as and when she lets them. Dee, being elder to both of them, is the mother hen of the group and her concern for Emmy just made me like her so much.

Now, Bentley, he’s your successful businessman who has cut off from the world and doesn’t show people who he really is, apart from his two friends. His life revolves around work and he hasn’t felt in a long time. That changes when he runs into Emmy at a coffee shop and they chat for a few minutes. Emmy makes Bentley laugh, something he hasn’t done in a long time. So, of course, he wants to spend more time with her. He goes back to the coffee shop to meet her the very next day and asks her out. They start dating and slowly, Bentley opens up to her. He is so sweet and thoughtful, it really made me smile. Even though he hadn’t known Emmy for long, he wanted to make her happy, to make smile. The efforts he took to make that happen really made me like him. He was overprotective and overbearing at times, but with the situation they were in, I couldn’t really fault him for that. I loved how he encouraged Emmy to pursue her dreams and did his best to shoulder her burden without taking away her independence. It was a fine line but he managed it. Sure, they had a few disagreements with regards to the money, but he handled the situation so well, it made me love him even more.

Emmy. Now Emmy, I adore. She’s blunt and funny. She doesn’t hold back and speaks what she thinks. She’s not easily intimidated and has the ability to turn any situation funny because of her smart mouth. She’s been through so much at such a young age yet she smiles and if I don’t know her story, I wouldn’t ever be able to imagine that she had dealt with so much pain. Seriously, I’m surprised she’s not a walking endorsement for abandonment issues and that she takes chances on people and tries to trust them. I wouldn’t be able to do it if I was in her place.

The romance is sweet and adorable. The attraction between them is instant, but no one is dropping the L – bomb after two dates so that’s good. I mean, insta love is overdone and I don’t really understand it. I love how their relationship builds and how they slowly learn to trust each other and rely on each other. Also, I love how they’re always honest and open. They don’t keep secrets “to protect” each other and are upfront about everything. That really was one of the things that I loved most about this story.

Really a great read and I would totally recommend it to all romance fans out there! 😀

1459165556078

I have to start by saying that I absolutely, completely loved this collection! So very good. I was a fan of some of the authors featured in here which is why I decided to participate in the blog tour, but after reading the whole anthology, I’m going to have to check out the works of a lot of other authors. All of them were just so good, but some of them were absolutely amazing, and I loved their stories a whole lot.
First up was, obviously, Meghan Quinn because I absolutely adore whatever I’ve read of her. She didn’t disappoint. Hers was one of the best stories in the collection. It was definitely the funniest. I was laughing almost throughout the entire story and I loved that! It was the best pick me up and I’m definitely revisiting this story cause I loved it so much!
The best angst was Kate Stewart. Gosh. That story was hella angsty and I was just here for all the feels the two main characters were bestowing on me. So much hurt between the two of them and so many mistakes. Gah. They hated each other almost as much as they loved each other. And the UST. My, my! I absolutely loved the pair here! And the story! *heart eyes*
Then, there was this amazing story by Sara Ney that just melted my heart because it was so adorable. That was also the one that had the least spotlight on the “sports” part of the romance, but it was just so amazing. I loved it!
The Ella Fox novella was just absolutely, completely heart warming. I adored the lengths the hero in that one went to, just to profess his love for his girl. It was so good to see. Of course, there was a lot of heartache involved, but, seeing those two together just made me so happy!

Those four were the ones that stood out most to me, but all the stories in here are so, so good. And such quick reads. You can breeze through one novella in 30-45 minutes and that’s absolutely awesome. Such amazing stories, all of them. They made me laugh and they made me cry. But, all of them were brilliant and I loved every minute of reading this collection. It was the only thing I did yesterday because I was just not able to put the book down.

Emma Scott:

I write romances with flawed characters, characters with artistic hearts: builders, poets, and writers of various makes and models. I love to write book lovers; those who have found refuge, companionship, and escape in books, much as we do in real life. I like realism, honesty, authenticity in storytelling. I love to write about enduring love, soul-deep love, in as real a setting as I can make, but with big smooshy HEAs. I believe in diversity, open-mindedness, and inclusion. I like sweetness mixed with steam, love conquering all, and above all, hope. Love always wins.

A BLONDE AT HEART

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.

Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Kate Stewart:

Kate Stewart lives in Charleston, S.C. with her husband, Nick, and her naughty beagle, Sadie. A native of Dallas, Kate moved to Charleston three weeks after her first visit, dropping her career of 8 years, and declaring it her creative muse. Kate pens messy, sexy, angst-filled contemporary romance as well as romantic comedy and erotic suspense because it’s what she loves as a reader. A lover of all things ’80s and ’90s, especially John Hughes films and rap, she dabbles a little in photography, can knit a simple stitch scarf for necessity only and does a horrible job of playing the ukulele. Aside from running a mile without collapsing, traveling is the only other must on her bucket list. On occasion, she does very well at vodka.

My Best Friend’s Ex, Meghan Quinn – Book Review

1459165497497

35004715When I found an eviction notice taped on my apartment door, I had two options: find a comfortable cardboard box to call home, or move in with Tucker Jameson.

Seeing that cardboard makes me feel itchy, I chose the latter. Which shouldn’t be that big of a deal Tucker is one of my good friends. And because he’s still pining after his ex-girlfriend and I’m trying to finish my nursing degree, there is nothing to worry about in the romance department, making my last semester an easy one to conquer.

Boy, was I wrong.

Rules are set, dinners are made, conversations are had, and a shirtless, swoony roommate walks around in nothing but a pair of black briefs, ruining me for every other man.

Before I know it, I turn into a panting, lust-filled woman begging for Tucker to kiss me, touch me, and show me exactly what is hiding under those briefs.

But with great orgasms, comes great consequences.

Tucker might be my friend and roommate but he’s also my best friend’s ex-boyfriend, making him completely off-limits. At least that’s what my brain is telling me, my heart is speaking an entirely different language.

My Best Friend’s Ex is the story of Tucker and Emma. Emma and Tucker have been friends since high school and Tucker used to date Emma’s best friend before a tragedy tore them apart. They haven’t spoken since the break up and then run into each other at a bar. Emma has 2 days to find a place to live before she’s evicted from her apartment because the bank is taking over her building. So, Tucker offers up his place, his brand new place that he’s originally bought for himself and Sadie, the ex. Not having another option, Emma agrees and moves in with him. The beginning of their living situation is awkward because Emma thinks her loyalty is with her best friend, but she can’t help rethink that because no matter what, Tucker is her friend too. Their past comes in the way and they’re both toeing around each other for a while before they settle into an easy friendship. But, as their friendship progresses, their feelings grow and the apparent forbidden nature of their relationship is difficult for the both of them to overcome.

I love how breezily this story flows. It is so natural and easy going. Not once did I think, oh this is too fast! Oh, this shouldn’t have happened. I was in for the ride from the beginning and it was a smooth and easy one. I liked it. I love how the author has written the relationship between Tucker and Emma. The slow burn is so SLOW. GOSH! But, I do adore the bond the two form as they progress towards their romance. I mean, I loved that though it was apparent that they were both attracted to each other, they rebuilt their friendship instead of jumping into bed together. That was so gratifying to read. So many brownie points for that, Meghan!

I love Tucker. God, do I ever love him. He is so amazing. It’s hard to not love him. So many times I just wished to go inside the story and wrap him up in a tight hug and take all his worries away. He’s such an amazing character. He’s loving and caring and funny and sweet and sexy. GAH! So, sexy! I adore him. I adore him so much. I love his character arc. He’s grown so much during the story, given up on so many things and realized so many others. His journey is amazing and I am so proud of him to have overcome all his demons and just be the best person he could be. It took a lot of effort and it shows. It’s amazing.

I like Emma too. She’s so focused and driven. But, Tucker brings out the carefree side in her and encourages her to let loose. She is so sweet. But, I hate that she was hung up on the fact that Tucker is Sadie’s ex. Yes, it’s a huge thing because Sadie is one of her best friend’s and she feels like she’s betraying Sadie by going out with Tucker. I understand that. Completely. But, I hate how she was always belittling their relationship, assuming that Tucker maybe comparing her to Sadie in everything. She assumed the worst of Tucker, that if push comes to shove he would leave her without even talking to him about it. I just hate how she wrote him off so easily. That is not fair to him.

But, Tucker just made me swoon with all his gestures to win Emma over. They were so grand but also heartfelt at the same time and I was just swept off my feet, seeing how much Tucker did care about Emma and how much he loved her. It was the most amazing thing ever.

All in all, My Best Friend’s Ex is a great read that has elements of romance, humour, drama and angst all wrapped up in one tiny package for you to read and enjoy. I certainly did! 😀

Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

Black Tie Optional, Ann Marie Walker – Blog Tour

The Proposal meets Two Weeks Notice in Ann Marie Walker’s new standalone romantic comedy, Black Tie Optional, which New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Probst calls, “a fun, sexy romp that will keep every reader entertained!”
Everything about Coleman Grant III oozes power and sex. And not the perfunctory kind either, but the sheet clawing, heart stopping, gasping for air after you’ve screamed so loud you can’t breathe kind. From his dark wavy hair that stands in an artfully rumpled mess, to the blue eyes that sear your skin, to his full, sensual lips – on the surface he’s pure perfection. Too bad he’s an asshole. An arrogant, uptight corporate raider hell bent on destroying the environment one species at a time.

Everything about Olivia Ramsey screams hippie humanitarian. From her blond hair tied in a sloppy bun, to her faded jeans with the Bonnaroo patch sewn on the thigh, to her combat boots still splattered with mud from the previous day’s site visit.
So it makes perfect sense that they would get married. In Vegas. Stone-cold sober. Cole needs a wife. Olivia needs to save an endangered species. But what starts as a marriage of convenience soon turns into a battle of wills and sexual tension. Love is a game, and Olivia and Cole are ready to win.

Black Tie Optional is the story of strong headed and fierce Olivia and the arrogant, tycoon Cole. Olivia, an environmental activist hates what Cole’s business is doing to the environment and is on his tail about changing his ways because animals are suffering because of what it does. However, despite all the animosity between them, they’re both attracted to one another and when Cole suggests they get married so that he can claim his inheritance, Olivia agrees. From there begins a game of cat and mouse and falling in love.
What I love about Olivia is her personality. She’s smart and fierce and independent. She’s not dazzled by Cole’s wealth or his larger than life attitude. Yes, she’s attracted to him and she admits that she is, but the whole thing is physical. It’s not because of his money or his stature. She’s loyal to a fault and isn’t afraid of speaking her mind. I like that about her a lot. She isn’t afraid to stand up to anybody if they question her and she does so unapologetically.
And then, there’s Cole. He comes off as arrogant and cruel, but there’s a whole other side to him that no one but his sister is privy to. He’s protective of her and he can go to any lengths to make sure that she’s fine and well. He drops everything at a moment’s notice for her.
When Cole and Olivia get married, this is the side of him that she sees and starts to fall for. Cole makes an effort, even if it’s for the cameras and soon their fake marriage is turning real when they start developing feelings for each other.
All in all, this story is a laugh out loud, sexy read that is breezy and quick. If you’ve got a couple hours on your hand, I’d recommend this book for you! 🙂
