The Forgotten Fairytales, Angela Parkhurst – Book Review

A psychotic, couture-clad, shoe obsessed Princess.
A not-so-charming, alcoholic Prince.
A hot Big Bad Wolf that she absolutely cannot fall for—no matter how well he kisses.

Seventeen-year-old, Norah Hart had no clue when she walked into boarding school, she’d be surrounded by reincarnated fairy tale characters, let alone learn she was one herself. In a world where the lines between good and evil blur, Norah struggles to find her place. When her actions throw off the balance of the fairy tale world and happily ever afters, enemies surface, ready to destroy her at any cost.

Ohhhh! This feels so good! It has been ages since I’ve reviewed and now the first one in ages is about a fairytale! Wooot! What a way to get back in the game!

So, The Forgotten Fairytales is very Once Upon A Time – ish. The characters in the story all belong to storybook characters. When one dies, a new is born to take their place and they all go to school to learn who they are destined to be. What their story is, who are they betrothed to be with. The usual cliches are still in place. The royals, the villains, the fairies, even the dwarves.

And Norah Hart is the new student. Her father dropped her and her sister off to this school before going away on business, saying it would be good for them to have some stability after moving around all their lives. Norah, who has no clue about the fairytales being real is convinced that the entire school is nuts for believing they’re out of a storybook. But, when her dad explains that all this is in fact true, she’s stumped. Everything her father told her has been a lie.

Everyone at school is convinced she’s a princess though they’re not sure which one she is, her sister hates her, a prince already betrothed to someone else is making moon eyes at her, she’s attracted to the Big Bad Wolf and Cinderella is a bitch who can stoop to any level to get what she wants.

I was skeptical to read this at first because the description made me feel like this might be a love triangle, but my love for fairytales made me read it anyway! And boy, am I glad that I did! Thankfully, it wasn’t a love triangle!

The thing that I love most about this book is that the struggles that Norah faced are so real. Any girl who is seventeen can identify with what she’s going through. She wants her sister to like her, her dad to be around, her mom to not have left her and she wants to be with the boy she likes, despite what anyone says about them not being able to be together because of their destiny.

Norah is smart, brave, intelligent and she speaks her mind freely. She believes that everyone is the master of their own destiny and just because Prince Charming ended up with Cinderella in the fairy tale doesn’t mean that that has to always be the case. She believes in freedom in a place where people are prisoner of their own fate, so scared and afraid of stepping out of character and doing what their hearts want that they can’t think beyond their destiny. She’s a kickass fighter which I absolutely love. She’s sarcastic as hell and is so full of snark. I adore her!

Wolf, on the other hand, he is so sexy! Man, I really want me some Wolf asap! He’s cunning and witty and all bulky strength. He’s sex on legs and utterly sinful. Gah, so good! He loves Norah so much, it’s amazing to read. He could literally go to the ends of the earth for her. But, at the same time he’s still stuck in the destiny bullshit and afraid to love her because there is no story where the princess and the wolf can get a happy ending and that scares him. Not for himself, but for Norah because he can’t see harm coming to her because of him. He’s seen things which make him reluctant to pursue his romance with her, but at the same time he’s so possessive of her that he can’t watch anyone making a move on her. That was kind of frustrating, but I think I understand where he was coming from, just a little.

And then, there’s Kate. Norah’s only friend at school. She’s a sweet, timid girl who’s been burned in the past which has made her the way she is. She’s an outcast and no one dares to talk to her after what happened last year. She’s the target of many a school bullies and it takes Norah scaring them away for Kate to have some peace of mind. She’s such an amazing friend, though. She’s there for Norah through every thick and thin and their friendship warms my heart!

All in all, this is one great story and you should definitely pick it up if you have the chance! 🙂

“I’ve never been to a ball or followed the yellow brick road, and I sure as hell never imagined myself living in a world of fairytale characters. Most of which want me dead. So when they come, because they will, I need to be ready.”

“And you think you could kill someone?”

“I know I could.”

When the academy in Nottingham burns down, sending in a new slew of fairytale classmates, Norah Hart comes face to face with new challenges, enemies and friendships. But the longer she is in this world, the more she realizes there is no getting out, leaving her with only one option–be prepared.

FORGET ME NOT is the second book in the Forgotten Fairytale series.

The Reflections of Queen Snow White, David Meredith – Book Review

What happens when “happily ever after” has come and gone?

On the eve of her only daughter, Princess Raven’s wedding, an aging Snow White finds it impossible to share in the joyous spirit of the occasion. The ceremony itself promises to be the most glamorous social event of the decade. Snow White’s castle has been meticulously scrubbed, polished and opulently decorated for the celebration. It is already nearly bursting with jubilant guests and merry well-wishers. Prince Edel, Raven’s fiancé, is a fine man from a neighboring kingdom and Snow White’s own domain is prosperous and at peace. Things could not be better, in fact, except for one thing:

The king is dead.

The queen has been in a moribund state of hopeless depression for over a year with no end in sight. It is only when, in a fit of bitter despair, she seeks solitude in the vastness of her own sprawling castle and climbs a long disused and forgotten tower stair that she comes face to face with herself in the very same magic mirror used by her stepmother of old.

It promises her respite in its shimmering depths, but can Snow White trust a device that was so precious to a woman who sought to cause her such irreparable harm? Can she confront the demons of her own difficult past to discover a better future for herself and her family? And finally, can she release her soul-crushing grief and suffocating loneliness to once again discover what “happily ever after” really means?

Only time will tell as she wrestles with her past and is forced to confront The Reflections of Queen Snow White.

The way that this book is written is absolutely phenomenal. The story is enchanting and gripping, and the writing is exemplary. You should totally go and read this. Right now.

This story explores Snow White’s life post the Happily Ever After that she had with her Prince Charming. It showcases her grief and her pain and her hopes. It is such a gripping narrative that you can’t help but just love it.

Snow is such a complex character and the emotions she experiences at any given point of time are showcased so beautifully in the story. This one has the perfect mixture of the ‘show and tell’ aspects of writing.

Any of you who are fans of fairy tales must definitely read this one. It gives so much more insight into Snow White as a character, it’s bloody brilliant. It wasn’t all sunshine and roses that Snow expected her life to be, but it was full of love and laughter. And that is what is important. Snow had a fulfilling life with her Prince Charming, but now she has to live a fulfilling life after he’s left her.

It is brilliantly crafted, amazingly written and beautifully showcased. I recommend this book to each and every one of you out there! Please go and read this amazing, amazing book! You’re seriously missing out if you haven’t read it yet!

#WattpadWednesday – Half Past, Em Slough

Hey guys!

It’s Wattpad Wednesday again! And this time, I’m covering this one author who I absolutely adore! She’s got so many amazing stories that I love and I could talk about them for days, but the one I’ve chosen here is one that she’s writing at the moment. I absolutely love this story and I’m looking forward to see it unfold!

So, here it is –

Half Past by Emily Slough! ❤

If the shoe fits, wear it? More like if Prince Henry’s genes actually match Ella Woods’ son’s, then, yeah, it looks like Charming has a kid.

So, this one is really in the beginning stages, only like 10 chapters in, but I love it. I mean, I always love everything this particular girl writes, but this one is just awesome! I absolutely adore it.

It’s so amazing. Like, it’s basically a retelling of Cinderella, but, instead of the shoe, we got a kid here :p

So, Ella met Henry a few years back when he came to dinner at a restaurant where she was waitressing. And then they clicked and yada, yada, yada. You know how that goes right? They slept together, she left in the morning to save herself the humiliation and boom! Two months later she found out that she was pregnant. But, she didn’t have any number to contact Henry and she didn’t even know he was a Prince till she was in her fifth month. However, she wasn’t sure he would believe her, so she never did contact him.

But, she gave up school due to it and took up a job in a local bed and breakfast to support herself and her son. Now, five years later, she runs into Henry again when he bunks in the bed and breakfast she works at for a week.

Of course it doesn’t take Henry long to realize that Fletcher is his son given that he immediately recognizes Ella and Fletch has Henry’s eyes. So, yeah, not rocket science for him to figure it out. To his credit, Henry doesn’t blow up a gasket and accuse Ella of keeping him in the dark. He understands her reasoning and requests her to let him be a part of Fletch’s life going forward.

The characters in this story are absolutely adorable and LOVE them!

Henry is cute and sweet and smart and charming and smexy! Oh my God! He is, he so is. He’s also good at the whole father business considering he’s new and Fletch is already four. They get along amazingly and just the way Henry is with him makes my heart melt. And, he pays so much attention to Ella it just makes me swoon! So many FEELS! ❤

Ella is sucha great mother. She’s smart and funny and lovely and absolutely amazing! I love her. She’s super kickass at the whole thing. She takes all of Henry’s affections towards her and their son in stride despite the fact that she’s seeing him after almost five years.

Fletcher is absolutely, totally adorable. I love him. I absolutely adore him. He’s so freakin’ cute! ❤

He’s pretty inquisitive and wants to know so many things in so little time. Sometimes, nobody has answers to his questions, so Ella makes him write those questions in his ‘Question Book’ so that they can look the answers up together. How cute is that?

Seriously, I love this! I mean, this story is in such a baby stage and #Hella (ship name courtesy of yours truly) is in the fetus stage and still, I adore them! I can’t wait to see how this story unfold because I know it’s going to be a treat to read! ❤

Yeah, all of them amazing books!

Also, she makes awesome covers! Here are some she uploaded on her ask –

Yeah, I LOVE her covers! Love doesn’t even cover it, really. I just… they’re perfection. *sighs*
