luciandivine_03-1-1-1“My guardian angel is a drunk.”

Evelyn Casey’s life is at a standstill. She’s in her mid-twenties, struggling with the dating scene in San Francisco. Nothing seems to be working out, and she’s starting to think that she’ll live out her days in her crummy apartment with her overbearing roommate, Brooklyn. It’s absurd, but sometimes Evey longs for a guardian angel to show up and save the day.

And then he does. Seriously. His name is Lucian and he’s a guardian angel, been on the job for two thousand years. His sudden presence in her life is both good—he’s brilliant, witty, and warm—and bad—he’s brilliant, witty, warm, and hot as —-. But as perfect as Lucian seems, he’s got problems of his own. He’s taken up drinking and he’s brazenly inserted himself into Evey’s life, going against the greatest cosmic law ever created.

For Evey, the rules are simple: You are not allowed to hook up with your guardian angel. But sometimes fulfilling your destiny requires a leap of faith, a confrontation with God.

Yes, God as in God.

1459165556078

This book. *sighs* This book.

Lucian Divine is the story of Lucian, a guardian angel, who falls in love with the soul he’s assigned to protect, Evelyn. Lucian has been guarding Evey since she was born, but he’s also in love with her. Her constant trysts with other men have driven Lucian to alcoholism and one fine day, when he can’t take it anymore, he tells her everything – that he’s her guardian angel, that he loves her, that they can’t be together. Then, he erases her memory, but he doesn’t do it right because Evey still remembers him. Then, she falls for him and yada, yada, yada.

“You are everything to me. You’re the dream, the air, the reason, the cause for my whole existence.”

 – Lucian

It’s clear that the best thing about this story is Lucian. His love for Evey is so all consuming, so huge, so much, it pours out of him. He’s ready to die, just to be with her. And however hard Evey tries, she can’t convince him to kill her so that they can be together because hurting Evey causes him unbearable pain. He comes close once, but is unable to go through with it because it’s hurting Evey. Yes, he loves her a whole lot. I admire that about him. That he is so in love with her and he’s not afraid to tell it to the world. He literally tells everyone he meets about her. Even though his best friend, Zack and his supervisor, Mona, advice him against getting together with Evey, what with him being an angel and her being human, he overlooks them and goes on to marry her. But, then, trouble finds them and everything that could go wrong, goes wrong.

But, the determination that Lucian has, to always protect Evey, to love her more than his own life, is there within him throughout the story and that’s amazing. I love that about him!

“Evelyn, I’ve existed for more than two millennia. In two thousand years, I have watched over so many lives. At times, more than five souls were my responsibility alone. I’ve watched all of them die. I’ve held many of them while they were dying. It’s in my nature to do that, to give peace to my souls, to look out for them when I can, to sway the good ones to do the right thing, and to protect man and life here on Earth. I’ve watched over stunningly beautiful and brilliant women, but I have never felt love for any human the way I feel it for you. You are literally the air in my lungs.”

Now, then, what I didn’t like.

It was too insta love. I understand that Lucian is Evey’s guardian angel, so he’s made in such a way that Evey can’t help but love him and he’s been in love with her for years, but it still feels too rushed. They’ve just met and they’re spending every moment together, getting engaged in two weeks and married in two months. Whirlwind romance, yeah?

And, then, we know how Evey fell in love, sort of, but how about Lucian? I would loved his side of the story, before he told Evey who he was.

As much as the plot kept me on my toes, at times it felt like everything was happening too fast and I didn’t have the time to fully grasp what was actually happening. It was great that I didn’t get bored, but I would have liked it if there was a breather somewhere in the middle.

“Evey, next time, in the next life we’ll be together—that’s how this will be corrected. This will be righted. This can’t be our forever fate. Next time we’ll live together, we’ll die together. We’ll experience every war together, inside ourselves and outside in the world. We won’t be out of reach, unavailable, unattainable, just love longing to be. Let’s keep moving fast in opposite directions. Keep praying we meet on the other side. I’ll see you there; I know I will. I have to believe that. Watch for me. I’ll be barreling toward you, arms wide open, and then we’ll crash into each other with the force of two spent lives yearning to be one.”

All in all, it’s a great book with a good story, well rounded characters and nice writing style. I would recommend it to the romance fanatics who like the insta love trope and the drama that generally accompanies it.

Grin and Beard It, Penny Reid – Book Review

1459165497497

233378631Sienna Diaz is everyone’s favorite “fat” funny lady. The movie studio executives can’t explain it, but her films are out-grossing all the fit and trim headliners and Hollywood’s most beautiful elite. The simple truth is, everyone loves plus-sized Sienna.

But she has a problem, she can’t read maps and her sense of direction is almost as bad as her comedic timing is stellar. Therefore, when Sienna’s latest starring role takes her to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park she finds herself continually lost while trying to navigate the backroads of Green Valley, Tennessee. Much to her consternation, Sienna’s most frequent savior is a ridiculously handsome, charming, and cheeky Park Ranger by the name of Jethro Winston.

Sienna is accustomed to high levels of man-handsome, so it’s not Jethro’s chiseled features or his perfect physique that make Sienna stutter. It’s his southern charm. And gentlemanly manners. And habit of looking at her too long and too often.

Sienna has successfully navigated the labyrinth of Hollywood heart-throbs. But can she traverse the tenuous trails of Tennessee without losing her head? Or worse, her heart?

1459165556078

Okay, so, anyone who knows me, knows that I absolutely adore Penny Reid. I mean, I just completely, absolutely, totally, irrevocably love her and her work. She is JUST THE BEST!

tumblr_lp4dsspa1g1qbz5qno1_500

There is a absolutely no two ways about the fact that she’s a brilliant author and all her books are just so very amazing. They’re just so, so, so freaking good. Like, I literally have a case of heart eyes when I read her books. I just want more and more and more and more!

tumblr_inline_n9ihruUdwr1qmjizo

It’s just because her books are so very amazing. She has such a way with words that you cannot help but love her. Her books are smart, funny, quirky, lovely, full of amazing slow burn romance and so much fun and laughter! I LOVE THEM! (Like I already mentioned 10000 other times!)

tumblr_o6bj9h3hZP1re3x32o1_500

Okay, now, I guess we’ve spent a lot of time fangirling over Penny, so we should dive into the review!

18576607

So, let me start by saying SIENNA DIAZ IS THE WOMAN! GOSH, I LOVE HER!!!! I LOVE HER SO MUCH. She is absolutely freaking shit brilliant.

giphy

She’s smart. She’s beautiful. She’s humble. She is absolutely freakin’ hilarious! (Well, she has to be. She is after all an A – list comedian.) She kind of reminded me of Rebel Wilson. Which is all sorts of awesome because I ADORE REBEL WILSON!

PG9bkr5

But, she is seriously so amazing. She’s like my new role model. She stands up for what she believes in. She doesn’t take shit from anybody. She always speaks her mind. She is determined and hard working and she loves her job. She’s always trying to be better at what she does and she has an amazing passion and drive for the things she loves. Yes, she is like the perfect woman. Now you know why I love her so much!

1464707934275

She is also a closet romantic. On the outward, she says she doesn’t want to settle down, but she does crave a family, a partner and her life to be filled with a lot of love. Which, makes absolute sense because she has so much love to give.

1464708145253

While she maybe a hopeless romantic, she still is a little cynical and a whole lot sarcastic. Seriously, there are so many facets to this woman’s characters that I could talk the whole day and still not scratch the surface. She is just this multi dimensional, loving, kind, complex, giggly girly woman who is just about everything awesome in the world.

1464707376802

Now, talking about Jethro. He is such an amazing BOOK BOYFRIEND! Like, make room ladies, your latest, probably the most amazing one as of late, Book Boyfriend has arrived. And, he is all sorts of amazing.

1464707564386

I can hear you sighing all the way from here, woman. Keep it down! I know he’s absolutely amazing, but, yeah. Put a stop to it!

So, Jethro. He’s done a lot of questionable things in his past, but one incident changed his life forever and since then, he’s been the best version of himself. He gave up all his vices, turned his life around and became this absolutely wonderful, wonderful man.

1464708563959

He is also a hopeless flirt. He’s charming and sexy and gorgeous and his mouth just spits honey. So, yeah, he just flirts without even trying. It makes him all the more desirable, though.

1464707170591

He’s also kind and caring and beautiful. He just gives and gives and gives. He’s such an amazing man. Always ready to help anybody, keeping his best foot forward, just being this amazing, amazing person. He never hesitates to help anybody, is always running around, trying to make others happy. I love that about him.

unnamed

And, he seriously has a way with words. He just knows the right things to say at the right time. I mean, I swooned more than once just listening to him. He is absolutely perfect. Just so, so, so very amazing.

1464708030293

Yeah, swoons, right? I just absolutely adore him. There aren’t words enough to tell you guys how much I adore him. He is absolutely friggin’ perfection. Just absolutely, completely, amazingly, perfect.

1464707745537

Now, coming to the story! It is so, so well written. Penny promised us some slow burn in this one and did she deliver?!?! Oh my! I was just so invested in the characters from the very beginning and they were just getting lost in their heads and trying to maintain a distance and what not, and I was just like, GET TOGETHER ALREADY!

tumblr_nqx31rqTjH1re3x32o1_500

That was my thought process for most of time they were skirting around each other and I just wanted to bash their heads together and make them understand that they’re totally perfect for each other! There was so much anticipation and build up that I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW I FELT WHEN THEY GOT TOGETHER! I just celebrated!

tumblr_o5fen3yiZq1re3x32o1_250

It was just so fulfilling, like I’d achieved my purpose in life! Then, their relationship took off and the book got even better than before, even though I didn’t think that was possible! They were all cuddly and smoochy and cutesy. Like this adorably sexy amazing couple and I just swooned so much. And dreamed about them being together forever.

1464708669811

And then they fell in love and things got even better and so much more interesting and there was so much drama and love and happiness and longing and anxiety in those last 5 chapters where they made their way to their happily ever after that I JUST LOVED IT!

It just put fuel to the fire and made their final meeting so, so much better. Just, more of that intensely amazing slow burn came into play.

1464708399081

So, after all the swooning, I don’t think there is much left to say! Thank you, Penny, for writing this amazing book!

tumblr_mbj2jx1NZ21re3x32o1_250

It is one new amazing feather in your amazingly awesome hat. Just keep being awesome and writing all these beautiful stories! YOU MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE!

Identical twins Beau and Duane Winston might share the same devastatingly handsome face, but where Beau is outgoing and sociable, Duane is broody and reserved. This is why Jessica James, recent college graduate and perpetual level-headed good girl, has been in naïve and unhealthy infatuation with Beau Winston for most of her life.

His friendly smiles make her tongue-tied and weak-kneed, and she’s never been able to move beyond her childhood crush. Whereas Duane and Jessica have always been adversaries. She can’t stand him, and she’s pretty sure he can’t stand the sight of her…

But after a case of mistaken identity, Jessica finds herself in a massive confusion kerfuffle. Jessica James has spent her whole life paralyzed by the fantasy of Beau and her assumptions of Duane’s disdain; therefore she’s unprepared for the reality that is Duane’s insatiable interest, as well as his hot hands and hot mouth and hotter looks. Not helping Jessica’s muddled mind and good girl sensibilities, Duane seems to have gotten himself in trouble with the local biker gang, the Iron Order.

Certainly, Beau’s magic spell is broken. Yet when Jessica finds herself drawn to the man who was always her adversary, now more dangerous than ever, how much of her level-head heart is she willing to risk?

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).

By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.

Rescued, Phoebe Rose – Blog Tour

Welcome to my tour stop for Rescued by Phoebe Rose. Rescued is a New Adult romance with snark, witty banter, and kittens. Can be read as a standalone. It is rated 18+.

1459165497497

Thomas is a hot geek, a twenty-three year old entrepreneur with no time for dating…and even less time to deal with the stray kittens who’ve claimed his patio as their home. Seattle college senior Tessa is a born rescuer, warm and caring–and sick of getting her heart bruised by guys like Thomas. But when he sees her rescue a kitten while wearing kitten heels, he’d do anything to kiss her. And while Tessa vows she’ll never let herself fall for a sexy, ambitious businessman, she fears she’s already in over her head.

1459165556078
This book is good. I like it. I mean, the story is not something that is new, but the writing is great. The way the characters are portrayed – their behavior, their personality, their emotions – it’s what makes it great. I like the quirkiness and the smart, sarcastic vibe that is there in this book the entire time.
The characters are really, really good. I like Tessa so much! She’s this ball of sarcasm and wit wrapped into procrastination and warmth and kindness who just demands to be loved by the reader. She’s a little insecure and a whole lot naive, but she is absolutely awesome! I love her. Really, I do. She’s such an amazing person. Kind and forgiving and loving. Always there to help her friends. Rescuing animals. Yeah, she’s great! 😀
Thomas is also real nice. He’s smart and stupid intelligent. Yes, I know that they’re opposites. I mean, he’s really, really intelligent. He’s younger than 25 and has already sold two of his start ups and is the CEO of his third. So, yeah crazy intelligent. He’s snarky and possessive and protective and just amazing. He’s super adorable and just melts your heart!
Like I said, the writing is what drew me in. The story is fast paced and doesn’t make you wait and doesn’t bore you. Which I like. I just wish that there had been a chapter or two before the epilogue. Seriously, the ending was a little rushed. I wanted to see more of the conflict resolution than what was shown. If the author would have done that, this book would have been so much better than what it is now. True story.
But, apart from that one issue I seem to have with this story, everything else is great! It really, really is! I loved it! So, so much! Makes your heart melt and smile so damn bad.
A definite recommendation for a light hearted, cutesy read on a weekend! 🙂

Wasted Words, Staci Hart – Release Day Review

Wasted Words Ebook Cover

Some universal truths refuse to be ignored.

Peanut butter and jelly are a match made in heaven. Spaghetti and meatballs are best friends forever. And guys like Tyler Knight don’t go for girls like Cam Emerson.

She knew from the second she met him that he didn’t belong on her bookshelf, the six-foot-six ex-tight end with a face so all-American, it could have sold apple pie. So she shelved him next to the supermodels and rock stars and took her place on her own shelf — the one with the flannel-clad, pasty-faced comic book nerds. Most of her boyfriends have existed between the pages of books, but rather than worrying over her own lacking love life, she puts all her energy into playing Cupid, using her job at the book bar, Wasted Words, as her stomping ground.

Tyler Knight always looks on the bright side. His career-ending injury turned into a job as a sports agent. A horrible breakup led him to Cam, his quirky, smart roommate who is far more beautiful than she realizes. She’s made it perfectly clear she’s not interested in him — not like that at least — but if she ever changes her mind, he won’t hesitate. Because he doesn’t see the lines she’s drawn between them, as much as she insists that they’re there. Deep down he knows that despite their differences, they’re a match well made.

*A romantic comedy inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma*

This story! Oh my GOD! I love this book! I really, really do! It is so amazing! I just don’t have the words to describe how amazing it is! I am in love with this story and that is all there is to it, really.

13217090_1101914386535091_3071549823033198216_o

It is a friends to something more romance and I love those! It’s just so heartwarming to see two friends who are so comfortable with each other realize that their feelings run deeper and then explore the same. I love the feel of it. The awkwardness, the shy adorableness that is prevalent in such situations, all of it! So, yeah, I love this story because this provides exactly that to the readers.

13096146_1095553570504506_1453042835198814040_n

Cam and Tyler are such amazing friends and seeing their relationship morph into more is amazing. They already know each other so well – their likes and dislikes and wants and needs. So, it is really great how they just dive into a relationship once they realize how they feel about each other. Of course, they do dance around a little, afraid that it might ruin their friendship, but then they persevere through. Thankfully!

13147807_1099315763461620_1976299630659158464_o

Of the two of them, it is definitely Cam who needs the reassuring that all is going to be fine. And Tyler does such an amazing job of it. He is there with her, every step of the way, holding her, guiding her and making her believe that what they have is real and that is what he wants. He’s just so, so, so very amazing, I don’t have the words to say. I adore him, plain and simple. He makes me laugh and he makes me smile and he makes me fall in love with him. He is cute and adorable and loving and caring and also sexy and beautiful. Who wouldn’t fall for him? He’s just really amazing.

13179328_1101274109932452_7908858380268583829_n

Cam, on the other hand, I identified a lot with her. She’s a bookworm, always reading something or the other, her nose buried in a book, not unlike me. She’s sort of shy and reserved when it comes to her own love life but loves playing matchmaker to others. She’s witty and feisty which I absolutely love. She’s not afraid to stand up for herself, but she also doubts herself in the capacity that she doesn’t believe that Tyler can stay with her for a long time. Her fears come from a deep seated place inside of her and until you know her story, you may think that she’s being unnecessarily pushy about the whole thing and unreasonably insecure when it comes to Tyler. The struggles that she faces may seem unimportant but they’re truthful. Many people face the circumstances as her and that’s what makes this relatable.

Do I wish she hadn’t been so hasty in making some decisions? Yes.

But after reading the story do I understand why she did it? Completely.

13096017_1096877683705428_4923855061935539774_n

All in all, this is one amazing, kickass read that is a must for all romance lovers out there! Staci Hart is absolutely brilliant at what she does and if you’ve not read her books, you’re seriously missing out. Like, seriously!

Go read this, now! And fall in love with Tyler. Deeply and irrevocably. ❤

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life: a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, even though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f and ends with k.

From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s sleeping, cleaning, or designing graphics.

First of all, HAPPY BOOK BIRTHDAY, GABY! This is awesome! I am so, so, so happy for you! 😀

Gaby is a totally awesome person and I am really, really happy that she’s finally getting this platform to reach out to such a huge audience. You go, Gaby! 😀

Talking about the story, now that celebrations are over, it is a great read. Both the main characters are going through stuff in their life that are not easy to deal with. Cancer, depression, death. And that is just the beginning. There’s so much more to their stories. So much that they keep hidden. So much that needs to be said. So much pain to get off their chest, but they’re not doing that. Why? Because they’re guilty. And that makes me really, really sad.

The plethora of emotions brought to life in this story is insane. There’s so much to unearth. Happiness, sadness, guilt, pain, depression, growing up, moving on. All of this is a part of the story. And, it is expressed just so beautifully it makes your heart ache.

I love each and every bit of this story. From the beginning right up to the end. Cassie is such a strong person. She really is. After everything that she has been through, I am so proud of her. Yes, there are times that I felt she was a little too whiny, but going back to thinking what she’s been through, I can understand her moods better. She’s just trying to find herself and let go off all the pain she’s been feeling these past few years and I definitely sympathize with her. I think that what she’s doing is amazing. She’s getting better. And that, is great. Really, really great.

Nathan, the male lead, is just simply amazing. Yes, he’s got the bad boy thing going for him and he behaves like a typical YA hero, all broody and jealous and mysterious. In the beginning. But, as time passes and Cass spends more time with Nate, Nate uncovers himself just beautifully. He’s such an amazing soul. He’s kind and gentle and so, so, so loving. He’s been looking after Cass even before she realized he was even there and he’s just always trying his best to make her feel better. He’s fighting his own demons, but he’s getting there. And there’s just something so incredibly honest about him, you can’t help but love him. Really, honest to God love him.

The story is absolutely compelling and beautiful and the characters are AMAZING! This book should be added to your TBR ASAP because you need to read it!

Gabriela Cabezut is a Mexican author who has been inclined to write ever since she was little. Being a creative person has always been one of her major traits.

Death In Neverland, Heather C. Myers – Book Review

1459165497497

24174572In the Neverland, people don’t grow up. Because they’re dead.

Remy Cutler dies, and somehow escapes certain death. She returns to the land of the living with nothing but a ripped gown and a fear of heights.

Two years later, she plans to escape her arranged marriage by stowing away onto a ship in hopes to leave her home with no one none knowing. However, she is found out, and the sailors aren’t happy. Before any damage can be done, she is yanked from her predicament back to The Neverland, a place where death resides – the very place she escaped from years ago. Souls are ferried by her savior. To her, he’s known as Nick, but to The Neverland, he’s the slippery Nicholas Grey.

The more time Remy spends with Nick and his crew, however, the more she realizes he’s shockingly misunderstood. Pirates aren’t all bad the way gentleman aren’t all good. One such gentleman goes by the name of Peter, and he has nothing but power on his mind and revenge against Grey in his heart. And then there are those that are completely indiscernible, like James Hook, a Viking and ruler of The Other World, whose sole ambition is attaining more souls to rule over, no matter what the cost.

This dark retelling of Peter Pan infuses familiar characters created by J. M. Barrie with new characters and Greek mythology. It is the first in a trilogy.

Well, I have to be honest. This book wasn’t entirely my cup of tea. I mean, sure, it’s good, but this book isn’t really meant for me. It is too descriptive. Now, don’t get me wrong, descriptions are good, great even. But, I hate too much of description because, let’s face it, who wants to read paragraphs and paragraphs of description when you could read the plot going forward? Not me, for sure.

The characters though, are good and easy to like. Remy may come off as annoying, but you eventually learn to like her, because hey! Every character can redeem themselves within the course of the story, just the way that she does.

The plot is exciting and there’s a sense of adventure that totally encompasses the book, the way you would expect it to when you’re reading something even remotely related to Peter Pan.

I’m not entirely sure what my turn off for this was, because it is a great story, believe me, it is, but I just didn’t connect with it in a way I hoped I would. I mean, Neverland means Peter Pan and I LOVE Peter Pan, but this wasn’t for me. It maybe the perfect story for you though. So, if you love lots of action and adventure with romance thrown in, you should definitely read this!

Love in Neverland is as hard to capture as fairy dust. Luckily, Magdalena Trainor has no need for either. Love has never been at the forefront of her mind. Her sole focus is to keep an eye on Captain Nicholas Grey while James Hook – the only person Magda trusts – has Remy Cutler in his clutches. She doesn’t expect the task to be difficult – Nicholas Grey may have brawn but doesn’t appear to have any brain – except he turns out to be more than she bargained for. And not in a bad way.

For Remy Cutler, love in Neverland is impossible and uimportant. All she wants to do is get back home, back to her parents, her easy life, and even her undesirable arranged marriage with a man she has no passion for. James Hook may be beautiful, but he’s cold, and while he does not raise a hand to her, Remy is constantly left alone, isolated from everyone save for her handmaiden. Rey still has no idea why she’s so special, and James isn’t sharing what he’s planning to do with her either. There’s a threat looming over her head, and James Hook plays two parts: captor and protector. With no one left to trust but him, she puts her life – and heart – in his hand – and hook.

So, this is a paranormal romance, which I ABSOLUTELY LOVE! I am a sucker for paranormal romances, really. I just love them! I love everything about them. So, obviously I had to pick this one up.

The thing that I liked most about this book was the world building. Seriously, Colleen, A+ for the world building. I LOVED IT! It is kind of reminiscent of Harry Potter in some ways and I believe that that is the highest compliment I can pay to any book. So, there.

The flow of the story is good. It is fast paced and humorous and filled with adventure. There’s a ton of romance. So, yes, this book has something for everyone. You can’t say that you didn’t like this book because it essentially has something for everyone in this. Which makes it totally awesome in my books. Yes, it does. Totally, awesome.

The character development is great and I love how the emotions of all characters are projected throughout the story. They’re real and humble and help you connect with the characters a great deal. It is really, really heartwarming and heartwrenching at the same time. Like, the projection in this story is totally awesome. I love it, really. That’s the best thing about this book apart from the world building.

The only thing that I didn’t like about this book is the love triangle. Yes, there is a love triangle. Let me tell you something about love triangles – they’re my pet peeves. I hate love triangles with a passion. I simply cannot buy the fact that one person loves two other people almost equally at any given point in time together. Yes, you may love them both, but you always love one more than the other, even if you don’t want to admit it. And, of course, this is what leads to conflict and I hate that the character is moping, moping, moping about how they cannot chose, because to me, as a reader, the choice is kind of always obvious since the beginning. And maybe, you can chose the other character, but for the love of God, make your mind up and stop stringing the two poor things along!

Yeah, not really a fan of love triangles, so definitely negative points there for me. I do understand, to a certain extent how Haylie is drawn to the both of them, but I don’t really like how she’s going back and forth between the two boys, unable to decide who she should be with. COME ON, HAYLIE! Make your mind up, please!

Apart from this teeny – tiny drawback, this book is amazing! Really. The plot, the development, the characters, they’re all great. And, this is a great read! 😀

Love Charms and Other Catastrophes, Kimberly Karalius – Blog Tour

1459165497497

25819497Aspiring love charm maker Hijiri Kitamura was excited to come back to Grimbaud for her sophomore year-until she learns about the upcoming charm making competition. Grimbaud has just started to recover from the tyranny of Zita’s love fortunes and it would be too easy for the winning charm maker to take Zita’s place. The only solution is for Hijiri, with the support of her friends and fellow rebels, to win the contest herself.

Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done, especially when Love itself has decided to meddle in Hijiri’s life. Concerned that it’s favorite charm maker has given up on finding a boyfriend of her own, Love takes matters into its own hands and delivers the perfect boyfriend to her in a giftwrapped box…literally.

Okay, so let’s be honest here. All three covers of Kim’s books are adorable! Like we all know, I only read this book because I loved the cover so much. (If you don’t, you should check my review for Love Charms and Other Disasters – Love Fortunes and Other Disaster, Kimberly Kiralius – Book Review. And now that that shameless part of self promotion is done, we can move on!)

I absolutely loved this book! It is so adorable. And it’s filled with the cutesy, adorable, smitten feeling all through the story. It starts with Hijiri, the heroine, finding a huge gift box on her doorstep. And, her gift is a boy. A live, breathing boy. Tailor made for her by Love himself. One who loves Hijiri so much already!

Hijiri, like any sane person, is befuddled and shocked at this. She can’t stomach the fact that this boy is in fact a charm. And so starts her mission to solve him, like he’s a puzzle and to prove to Love that she can solve him without falling for him.

“I don’t know what to do with you.”

“That’s okay, I’ll be here when you do.”

It doesn’t help that Ken is all sorts of charming and perfectly right for Hijiri. Of course he is. Love made him just for her. He’s smart and cute. He’s so sweet and caring and loving and I just ADORE HIM SO MUCH!!!! ❤

giphy

I just really, really, really adore him! Ken is like the perfect boy. *sighs*

He’s always there for Hijiri whenever she needs a friend, a shoulder to cry on, a helping hand, a believer, anything. He can be anything and everything she needs and that just makes my heart melt. Like, he’s not perfect, of course. But he might as well be. For Hijiri, he is. And that is all that matters.

We must look like two halves of a heart.

The character development for Hijiri is definitely super outstanding. I love how she comes into her own as a person and as a character through the course of the story. She was a timid, shy girl who didn’t really talk much in book one. Then, she made some friends and she spearheaded her friends to victory in the charm making competition and she fell in love. She’s absolutely brilliant. Really. I identify with her a lot in the sense that I am always looking for Happily Ever Afters for others but I don’t really believe that I have one out there. Just like Hijiri. But, her story gets a Happily Ever After and that makes me thinking that maybe, just maybe, I could to. (I’m not really holding my breath for that one. Because I’m not convinced still. Not really.) But, she did find hers and that is what is important.

It makes me believe that our hearts can be tangled and tied to each other no matter how far away we are or how much time passes between.

The setting of the story is absolutely awesome. Grimbaud is facing an identity crisis after Zita’s fall and the town is desperate for another love charm maker to take over. So, of course, there’s a competition to chose who can take over. And, obviously, Hijiri and the charm theory club are participating. There was such a competitive edge in the story. I loved it. All the tests and the quizzes and competitions were amazing. Of course, I absolutely loved Hijiri’s take on all the tasks, how she went about them, what questions she asked, what charms she made, they were truly unique and breathtaking. I loved them all. It shows us just how much Hijiri understands love and what is important when it comes to love.

To keep holding his hand. To feel his arms around her. To laugh at his dorky sweaters and bulky backpack. To know what kissing Ken would feel like. Loving Ken was like dreaming.

The development of the other characters was also done really beautifully in the story. I loved the homey edge that surrounded Fallon and Sebastian. After everything they’d been through, those two deserved it more than anyone else. And, I loved seeing them that way. All loved up and in bliss. ❤

Nico and Martin are taking there relationship forward and those two are just totally remarkably adorable. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows for them, but they’re working through their issues and seeing them so devoted to each other is really heartwarming.

And then, there’s the twins. For the first time, they’re stepping in uncharted territory. They’re having differences of opinion and fighting. That was really refreshing to read. It was also very uncomfortable and daunting. I was just wishing wishing wishing for them to get past their differences and be the sisters I knew them to be. Of course they did that, but it took sometime before their issues were resolved and seeing them that way was sort of eye opening.

“What does our home look like?”

“It’s made of charms. Not very sturdy.”

“Ah! So we are building one together. And here I thought I was the only one working on this relationship.”

All in all, Love Charms is an amazing read and definitely lives up to the expectations I’d set after reading the first one. It’s love and happiness and struggling and finding each other despite all the differences in the world and just being there for your friends and your family and always, always, always opening your heart to love. It’s believing that there is someone in this world, who is made just for you, no matter what else you might think, because it’s true.

“You fell in love with me. Twice. How?”

“I don’t think I can put that answer into words.”

I totally suggest all you guys to go grab this book and read it right now because it is so effing amazing!

“My heart blushes whenever I’m around you.”

In Kimberly Karalius’s First Kisses and Other Misfortunes, two boys discover that true love is harder than it looks, even in the charming town of Grimbaud, in this lovely novella from the author of Love Fortunes and Other Disasters.

Nico is worried. Again. After freeing Martin from the illegal love charms of his evil ex-girlfriend, Nico was sure that their love would be the perfect romance he’d been waiting for. But it’s been months and Nico’s still waiting for his first kiss. Between Martin’s dedication to student government and Nico’s responsibilities at his family’s tourism business, there’s been no time for romance or kisses. Fortunately, the Canal Festival is coming up and like all Grimbaud events, it will be filled with romance…especially the Water Parade, Nico’s favorite part. And this year, Nico will be the captain of his own small boat! It’s the perfect opportunity for a romantic (and hopefully kiss-filled) date with his boyfriend. There’s just one small problem: Martin is afraid of drowning. Will Nico’s dreams of a romantic first kiss be sunk before they are even launched?

Everyone in Bedford Falls wants to see Robbie Masters find his own Happily Ever After, but Robbie knows happy comes with a price, and it’s not one he wants to pay.

Well, I happen to be one of the privileged people to be a part of Kate’s review team and let me tell you, I LOVE IT! I adore Kate’s stories and helping her getting the word out for her novels is a great, great feeling!

Just like all of her novels, Silver Moon Sparkling has a cutesy, feel good edge to it that makes the reader happy to read it. The characters are sweet and cute and adorable. They have depth and meaning and a story to tell. And Kate tells that story beautifully. It is such a pleasure to read about them.

The story primarily revolves around Robbie and his love life, and on Lily, a teenage girl who is battling self esteem issues and trying to mend fences with her family. It is told in alternating perspectives by Robbie, his love interest, Sara and Lily and is an absolute delight to read.

Robbie’s struggles when it came to his love life were so real and deep. I connected with him a lot on the level that he didn’t want his heart to be broken after the past relationships he’s had. And with good reason. Of course all that goes for a toss when Sara enters his life and he falls for her, hard and fast. The growth of his relationship with Sara is written so beautifully that it makes your heart melt and it makes you swoon. Seriously, it does.

Sara’s struggles, on the other hand, are career related. She’s struggling to move ahead in her career as a motivational speaker. She’s losing all hope and hanging on a thin shred when Robbie comes in. He believes in her and he encourages her and she blossoms in his company. It really is beautiful how they are together.

And, of course, there’s Lily. She’s struggling through so much. Everything in her life is changing and she’s barely hanging on, trying to cope with everything. But, between her mother’s new boyfriend (who she likes, but doesn’t admit out loud, because she has a father), her absentee grandfather who suddenly has interest in spending time with her and going out with a douchebag to placate her best friend, she has her plate full. But, there’s the one boy who makes her feel happy and she needs to chose. Who’s happiness is more important. Hers or of those around her.

All the stories come out beautifully. I love them. The characters are great and relatable and amazing. All of them. My favorite is definitely Luna, Robbie’s friend. I cannot wait for her book to be released! Seriously! She is so goddamn amazing. I just adore her. Everything about her. She is GREAT!

You should really, really go read this! Now!

The Reflections of Queen Snow White, David Meredith – Book Review

1459165497497

18780192

What happens when “happily ever after” has come and gone?

On the eve of her only daughter, Princess Raven’s wedding, an aging Snow White finds it impossible to share in the joyous spirit of the occasion. The ceremony itself promises to be the most glamorous social event of the decade. Snow White’s castle has been meticulously scrubbed, polished and opulently decorated for the celebration. It is already nearly bursting with jubilant guests and merry well-wishers. Prince Edel, Raven’s fiancé, is a fine man from a neighboring kingdom and Snow White’s own domain is prosperous and at peace. Things could not be better, in fact, except for one thing:

The king is dead.

The queen has been in a moribund state of hopeless depression for over a year with no end in sight. It is only when, in a fit of bitter despair, she seeks solitude in the vastness of her own sprawling castle and climbs a long disused and forgotten tower stair that she comes face to face with herself in the very same magic mirror used by her stepmother of old.

It promises her respite in its shimmering depths, but can Snow White trust a device that was so precious to a woman who sought to cause her such irreparable harm? Can she confront the demons of her own difficult past to discover a better future for herself and her family? And finally, can she release her soul-crushing grief and suffocating loneliness to once again discover what “happily ever after” really means?

Only time will tell as she wrestles with her past and is forced to confront The Reflections of Queen Snow White.

Snow is such a complex character and the emotions she experiences at any given point of time are showcased so beautifully in the story. This one has the perfect mixture of the ‘show and tell’ aspects of writing.

Any of you who are fans of fairy tales must definitely read this one. It gives so much more insight into Snow White as a character, it’s bloody brilliant. It wasn’t all sunshine and roses that Snow expected her life to be, but it was full of love and laughter. And that is what is important.
