All of the Stars Left Behind, Ashley Graham – Spotlight

All the Stars Left Behind by Ashley Graham

Relocating to Arctic Norway would put a freeze on anyone’s social life. For Leda Lindgren, with her crutches and a chip on her shoulder the size of her former Manhattan home, the frozen tundra is just as boring as it sounds. Until she meets her uncle’s gorgeous employee.

Unfortunately, no matter how smoking hot the guy is, Roar comes with secrets as unnerving as his moving tattoos. And Leda doesn’t trust him.

Roar shouldn’t be drawn to the moody human girl with eyes that leave him weak in the knees. But when Leda gets shot by one of his enemies and survives, Roar finally understands why he’s drawn to her: Leda is exactly what he was sent to Earth to find. A weapon of immense power capable of saving his planet.

She just doesn’t know it yet.

This book.  Uh, this book. It’s like Hunger Games meets Maze Runner. Yes, I’m aware you’ve read that about this book in thousands of places, but it’s the most apt description to this that there is.

Overall, the plot is good, the characters are complex enough to keep you engaged and the writing is good. The world, however, isn’t explored to it’s full potential, or so I believe. I mean, there’s no proper explanation as to the status of people. Why Gold? Why Silver? Why Bronze? We know that’s who they are, but not why. Money, lineage? What decides it?

I think that the story has an extremely powerful beginning in the prologue, but then the following chapters don’t do justice to the beginning. It took me sometime to actually start enjoying the book and reading the first few chapters was a huge task for me. Be as it might, I couldn’t bring myself to like what was going on. The characters are so VILE AND MEAN AND CRUEL, gosh! It’s kind of unbelievable. It’s all really dark. People cut off each other’s body parts. And that is considered normal. Yeah, no. That’s not for me. At all. I can’t bring myself to understand why people would be so evil. Is it the coming Doom? I guess, maybe. Survival instinct, sure that could be the reason.

Also, there’s a love triangle. Which is a pet peeve of mine. I hate them. With a passion. But somehow, I didn’t mind it much in this. Maybe because it wasn’t what was central to the story and the actual plot was more engaging than the romance. I have to say, I’m totally rooting for Riser. He’s definitely more interesting than Caspian. He’s dark and mysterious and has a whole lot of depth that Caspian fails to possess. He’s like the bad boy with a heart of gold. Yeah, you’ve read that elsewhere, but that doesn’t make Riser any less delectable. He’s so good. He’s also definitely my favorite character in the book.

I like the heroine’s drive to find her brother. She’s so determined to find him and save him and make him believe that she didn’t abandon him. It’s really heartbreaking at times. All the familial bonds in this story are so well depicted. It’s great to see YA where authors give importance to family and not just the romance.

All in all, this is a great read. A little sluggish in the beginning, but then it picks off great. All you sci – fi dystopia fans out there have to read this! You’ll absolutely love it!

My friends say Hunter’s dangerous
They say he’s a threat to everyone in town.
But I’m not so sure.
As he stands before me in this crowded club with the lights shining around us, I catch something good under Hunter’s dark facade. Something decent and profound.
I don’t know who or what to believe.
But I will find out the truth.

Aeris Thorne is expecting a restful vacation in the remote town of Deep Cove. But on a stormy night, she meets the alluring and mysterious Hunter Cayman, and her life takes an exhilarating turn. Aeris is both drawn to him and determined to find out what he’s hiding. But what Aeris doesn’t know is that he’s tormented by a secret: the truth behind his research. As he and Aeris are drawn together, the walls he’s built to protect himself threaten to crumble. At the same time, she uncovers clues to her own tragic past, answers she never thought to find–and a love she can’t resist despite the dark troubles it brings. I can safely say that this book is one of the most eccentric and different books that I have read till date. It is a unique mixture of romance, fantasy, sci – fi, mystery and thriller all wrapped into one totally awesome package for you to read and amaze at.

Apart from the distinct plot of the book, the writing is simply amazing. I love it! The way the author brings out the various plot lines, the emotions, the setting – it is all amazing. And so amazingly done. It is beautiful and lovely and just so awesome. (I feel like I am out of words with this! :P)

But seriously, it is just so awesomely done, I do not have any other words to describe it. The characters are amazing, the setting is phenomenal and the plot is mind blowing. So, there is little to none that is to hate about this book. It has so many elements that readers of each genre can find something for them in this book.

And, the best part is that nothing is overdone, which makes the reader appreciate all that is tried to be projected in the book. I love how we’re left guessing till the end of the book and the mystery is only properly unraveled in the end. Also, the chemistry is absolutely sizzling. Hunter and Aeris. Oh MYYYYYYYYYY!!!! It is just so… oooohhhhh! I do not have proper words to describe it!

All in all, this is one kickass book that definitely needs your love!

Lola Dodge
(The Shadow Ravens #3)
Published by: Ink Monster LLC
Publication date: October 4th 2016
Genres: Science Fiction, Young Adult

Quanta has escaped her laboratory prison, but that’s where the good news ends.

Life at the Shadow Ravens’ compound is a disaster. She’s drowning in visions of the dark pasts and darker futures of her fellow Ravens and is plagued by her own panic-inducing memories, but Lady Eva still expects her to “train” and “participate in missions.” Plus, the food tastes like burnt plastic.

The only bright spot is her genetic pairing to the brilliant Altair Orpheus. As their relationship grows, she’s positive that chemicals aren’t the only things drawing them together—although chemistry is definitely involved.

While they test the limits of her game-changing new ability to reset time, word arrives from Eva’s agents: Doctor Nagi is still experimenting with her DNA. If he succeeds in duplicating her power…

Forget the Shadow Ravens. The whole world is toast.
